Brentford’s Development Squad came from behind to win 4-3 at home to Watford in stoppage time at Jersey Road.
Head Coach Kevin O’Connor was really impressed by the way his team secured all three points in the U21 Professional Development League Two South, after goals from Josh Laurent, Bradley Clayton and Herson Alves.
“We were three-nil down with 15 minutes to go, it was a really strange game where I felt we dominated,” said Kevin. “Credit to Watford they took their chances, where we didn’t, and I thought it wasn’t going to be our day but once we got the first goal our boys rallied, put in the effort and got a 4-3 victory.”
“I felt with the chances we created, we deserved to win the game. Being three-down I thought it was going to be a tough ask. Like I said to the players, all credit to them because they produced.”
Kevin was impressed by the squad’s overall performance, including a very dominant display in a goalless first half. He highlighted the presence of Yoann Barbet, who played the full match at centre-back.
“I asked them to start brightly, because in the last few games we haven’t started so quickly,” said Kevin. “Today I thought we did that, I thought we passed the ball around well and created numerous chances.”
“I think [Yoann] did well, he helped the lads around him. He’s a good role model in training to watch. He has a good attitude, as you’d expect of a First Team player.
“It’s hard work, and the Under-21 level is tough because if you make a mistake you usually get punished by it. The boys are learning quickly and I’m very much enjoying working with them.”
