Kevin O’Connor feels it would be a real boost for Brentford’s young Development Squad players to be backed by a sizeable crowd at Griffin Park on Friday night when they take on Bristol City.
The Development Squad head into the game, which kicks-off at 6pm, admission free, looking for a third straight win under Kevin after successes against Queens Park Rangers and Crystal Palace.
Speaking ahead of the match Kevin said Friday’s match was a good opportunity for fans to come down and see the future of the club and that their support really can make a difference to the young players on show.
“It is a good opportunity to come down on Friday night and encourage the boys who will hopefully be around our first-team in the future,” said Kevin. “The fans can really help the players’ development by coming down to encourage them. I remember when I was coming through that getting encouragement from the fans gave you a real spring in your step. The fans are great with encouraging the players already and that is all we can ask of them.”
The Bees have been the entertainers in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South this season, with their eight games producing 31 goals.
Monday’s encounter with Crystal Palace was no exception as Sam Saunders struck twice in injury-time, after Montell Moore’s earlier fine strike, as Brentford came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 against The Eagles.
Kevin is predicting an exciting game tomorrow night especially with Saunders and Lewis Macleod both scheduled to start.
“We try to mirror the first-team so we look to play a similar formation and we try to build it up from the back,” said Kevin. “Sam Saunders and Lewis Macleod will be involved so that is a good reason to come down and watch, especially with Lewis having been out for a long time. Hopefully it will be an exciting game and we can get the same result as we did at Crystal Palace on Monday.”
