Club Captain Kevin O’Connor said the Brentford players loved seeing the faces of young people when they attend community events.
Kevin shared the Brentford FC Community Player of the Year award with striker Clayton Donaldson.
The duo collected their prizes at the Player of the Year Ball earlier this month, being selected for their work in the community and with Brentford FC Community Sports Trust.
They had come from the Trust’s annual Isis event earlier in the day and Kevin, speaking after collecting his award, said the players were award of how much work staff put in.
He said they loved to help.
“The amount of hours that everyone puts in is tremendous,” said Kevin.
“The players see that and anything we can do to help, we love to do.
“There is a lot of player participation and we love to see the kids’ faces.
“We were at the Isis event today, that was a tremendous event and it was a pleasure to turn up.”
Clayton won the award for the second year in a row.
He said he remembered what it meant to him growing up in Bradford to have players at events and wanted to help.
“It means a lot of be involved,” said the striker
“I have always said I want to give back to the community.
“I was like these kids when I grew up in Bradford.
“It was always good to see players support the scheme.
“I want to give back, they are the future.”
