Brentford Women’s First Team progressed to the Third Round of the League Cup after beating AFC Acorns 2-1 in an outstanding performance, following the win Manager Karleigh Osborne gave his thoughts on how his side performed.
Osborne said: “We played some really good football and looked like such a complete team for large periods of the game, I’m really proud of all of the girls.”
Despite the Bees being the dominant side for the majority of the match it was the visitors who took the lead just two minutes in.
Speaking on the early goal, Osborne said: “I think it was a lack of concentration from us, we didn’t come out fast enough and we got punished for that.”
The Bees soon found an equaliser though and it came from a direct corner by Nikki Saunders on 16 minutes.

Saunders stepped up to take the left-sided corner which curled directly into the near post catching the AFC Acorns keeper off guard.
“We grew into the game in the first half and before the equaliser we were making chances, so the goal was definitely coming.
“The girls listened to everything I had to say at half time, there was a few things I thought we could have improved on, and they were magnificent in the second half.
Osborne’s side played with a real rhythm from start to finish in the second 45 and after several attempts on goal they finally took the lead through Kirsty Matthews.
The Brentford number 15 was first on scene to tap home the rebound following a lovely move which ended in Logie forcing Graves into making a great save, only for the ball to sit perfectly for Matthews to give her side the lead.
Talking on the goal Osborne said: “If that was a goal scored in the Premier League they would be speaking about it for a long time.
“There were some really good performances throughout the whole team, we have beaten a team that play in the league above us and did it comfortably so I’m over the moon.”
The win on Sunday gives the Bees all the confidence they need as they head into the game at the Gtech Community Stadium against Watford Ladies Development.
Osborne explained: “I’m excited for the girls it’s going to be a really good day but it’s important that we perform.
“I need to pick a team that’s going to win the game and I want them to do it in style for all the fans that will be there.”
