Brentford head to the Newcastle United on Saturday full of confidence and looking to come back with the three points according to winger Josh Clarke. The Bees are unbeaten in seven in the Sky Bet Championship and sit just outside the Play-Off places with a quarter of the season gone. Josh admits that it will be a great occasion for the players at St James’ Park on Saturday but said that will not distract them from trying to get the three points.
“For me it will be one of my best moments but you can’t get carried away,” said Josh, speaking to Bees Player ahead of the match. “We have to perform, get a result, and move on to the next game. We are going there full of confidence and we are buzzing. We know that it is going to be a hard game but if we get things right then we have a chance. As a team we all enjoy those big stadiums. The best thing is to go there and get the three points, that is all that counts. We know that it is going to be a great atmosphere and a great stadium. We are all up for it and all looking forward to the game. Training this week has been short and sharp. The intensity has been great and the quality has been great.”
The 22-year-old is enjoying a breakthrough season at Griffin Park, featuring nine times so far this campaign and netting his first goal in the 4-1 win over Reading last month. Five years ago Josh was effectively playing park football and the winger said that last weekend’s international break gave him a good chance to reflect on how far he has come lately and where he wants to get to.
“It was nice for me last weekend to reflect on my performance and the team performance and to spend time with family and friends,” said Josh. “I was looking back at what I have been doing right and all the hard work that I have been doing which is going to continue. I am grateful that I am playing and in and around the first-team. I look back at where I have started from and how hard I have worked to get here. I have to continue to work hard and keep pushing. I am grateful that I am playing and working hard and that members of staff trust me to play.”
