Jonathan Douglas said Brentford deserved their win over Blackburn Rovers on Saturday and were delighted with the three points.
The Bees bounced back from defeat at Huddersfield Town last week to take the points on Saturday.
Jonathan scored the first goal, turning home a Jake Bidwell cross, in a first half Brentford dominated.
But The Bees were pegged back before the break when Blackburn levelled through a deflected Rudy Gestede goal.
Andre Gray restored the lead after half time and Jota scored a third soon after to seal the win.
Jonathan hailed Brentford’s performance in Saturday’s win and put it down to hard work.
“I think our performance was really good,” he said.
“We needed to bounce back after last week’s defeat.
“We worked really hard during the week and our performance took care of itself.
“The result followed on.
“Overall we are delighted and I think we deserved it.
“I think we played really well last week and created a lot of chances.
“I missed a couple.
“We stuck together, we needed to work hard, we knew they were a good side and we played really well.”
Jonathan grabbed his fifth goal of the season making it already his most prolific campaign for The Bees to date.
He also played a part in the third but admitted it was fortunate as he went in for a 50/50 ball with Craig Conway that broke to Jota to finish.
“I got in to the box and I think Bidders was going to shoot,” said Jonathan, talking to Bees Player about his goal.
“Being a full back up that high he got a nosebleed.
“I was lucky enough to get in.
“The third one was a bit of luck.
“It was a 50/50 tackle and a ricochet.
“He finished it well.”
Jonathan said Brentford kept the belief in their system despite going in level at half time.
He said The Bees had been the better team for most of the first half and knew they would be OK if they repeated it.
“We had to keep believing,” said Jonathan.
“For the first 43-44 minutes we were the better team.
“We were creating chances and were 1-0 up and were unlucky to go in at 1-1.
“We knew if we started the second half as we did the first we would give them a good game and hopefully get the win.
“We are a good side; we played good football and put teams under pressure.
“We are creating chances and at the moment we are taking them, it is all good.”
Blackburn put on attacking reinforcements, including prolific striker Jordan Rhodes, when they went 3-1 down but Brentford stood firm.
“They are a good side,” said Jonathan.
“They are not where they are in the table for nothing.
“They get the ball forward quickly and with boys like Rhodes coming on and David Dunn they have a lot of quality.”
Brentford have won six out of seven games since Toumani Diagouraga was brought in to play in midfield.
Jonathan hailed the performance of the long-legged midfield man and side Toumani merited the new contract he signed this week.
“Toumani playing means I can go forward with the knowledge someone will sit,” said Jonathan.
“He has come in and probably been our best player for the last six weeks.
“He deserved the contract he got.”
Jonathan also scored on the same weekend last season, getting the only goal in a 1-0 win over Oldham Athletic, the first match in charge for Brentford Manager Mark Warburton.
He looked back briefly on the past year.
“We are in a different division with new players,” he said.
“It has gelled well.
“But we have to keep working hard and we will see where it takes us.”
