Jon Toral believes that this Brentford team never know when they are beaten as they came from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Nottingham Forest at Griffin Park on Easter Monday.
Second-half goals from Tyler Walker and Todd Kane looked to be returning the points to the East Midlands as Forest led with ten minutes to play.
However an Andre Gray strike, his 16th of the season, and then Jota’s header five minutes into injury time meant Brentford extended their unbeaten run to four as they snatched a late point for the second home match running.
The on loan midfielder said that the aim before the match was to pick up all three points, to add to the three earned in the 4-1 win at Fulham on Friday, but, while it was disappointing not to be able to do that, the late point may prove to be vital come the end of the season.
“We are not too happy with the result because we wanted the three points,” said Jon, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“It wasn’t our best performance of the season and we have to get that right for the last five games.
“With how the game was going towards the end a point is good.
“We will keep going in the fight for the Play-Offs.
“At 2-0 down we had to still keep believing because we have done it before.
“We did it against Millwall a few weeks ago so we had to keep going and fight for the three points.
“We wanted three goals, we didn’t want two.
“We could only score two goals and get one point so it is good but it could have been better.
“This team has the character to come from behind and we have proved that before.
“We believe that if we go behind we can come back.
“We are a team that only want to win.
“I would never have taken a draw before the game.
“After the way the game went we would take a draw but before the match we wanted six points from the weekend.”
Jon was introduced just before the hour with the score at 0-0 however he and his teammates were soon 2-0 down as Forest netting twice in 12 minutes.
Once Dougie Freedman’s side had the lead they sat deep and invited wave upon wave on Brentford pressure on them.
Jon said that it was important for Brentford to remain calm in the closing stages and to keep moving the ball to open up the tightly packed ranks of the visitors’ defence.
“Nottingham Forest played very well and pressed us very well,” said Jon.
“It wasn’t easy for us to move the ball quickly and we couldn’t find the spaces.
“After going 2-0 down we had to come back and we did.
“We have played against teams who play with a deep holding midfielder before.
“We know how to play against those types of teams and we just have to keep moving the ball quickly and we will find the space.”
The draw saw Brentford drop to seventh and out of the Sky Bet Championship Play-Off places with five matches remaining.
The first of those five matches is this Saturday when Mark Warburton’s side travel to Derby County who occupy fifth place, just a point better off than The Bees.
With so much riding on the final five games of the season Jon said it is important that the squad takes things one match at a time and puts in five good performances and then, the Spanish midfielder believes, the rest will take care of itself.
“We have an important game against Derby County next Saturday and we will go on from there,” said Jon.
“We know that we have five games and five finals.
“We have to play each game at the best level that we can and see where that takes us.”
