Jon De Souza said he was disappointed Brentford’s Development Squad conceded a last gasp equaliser against Ipswich Town but felt a draw was a fair result.
The Bees picked up a point in the Under-21 Professional Development League Two South clash against the Championship side in a 2-2 draw.
The Bees went ahead in the first half, only to conceded seconds before the interval, and then regained the lead when Luke Norris headed in.
But Ipswich striker Byron Lawrence scored from 30 yards in second half stoppage time to level it up again.
Development Squad Manager Jon, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said a point apiece was the right result.
“We are disappointed to concede so late,” he said.
“I think a draw was a fair result.
“First half we did relatively well, they had more of the ball throughout the game but we looked more threat to the goal, particularly first half.
“Second half we weren’t really at the races.
“We did OK but they grew more in to it and a draw was a fair result.
“We hit the crossbar, had other chances and hit the side netting in the first half.
“But we made a mistake for their goal, 1-0 at half time I would have been happy, even though we could have scored three or four in the first half.”
Ipswich’s first came when Antonio German was robbed in his own half and neither he nor Kevin O’Connor could stop Byron Lawrence squaring for Jack Ainsley to score.
Jon said he was annoyed that his players were not concentrating when Ipswich scored their second.
“For the first goal, Antonio has to make better decisions,” he said.
“What annoyed me most about the second was that the players were complaining about a decision.
“I think the referee got the decision wrong – one of their players went in late on Jake Reeves – but he didn’t put the ball in the back of the net.
“We didn’t organise ourselves well enough, we were still moaning when the game was going on.”
Brentford took the lead when Ipswich defender Dave October diverted a Leon Redwood free kick past his own goalkeeper.
Their second was headed home by Luke Norris after Stuart Dallas had picked up a Scott Barron cross.
The late equaliser prevented Brentford making it five league wins in a row.
“The first was a set piece and the second was a good goal,” said Jon.
“There was great work down the right by Stuart Dallas and by Scott Barron on the other side and a good finish.
“This was a good test, Ipswich had two overage players.
“They were very good, they passed it well.
“It would have been nice to have five wins on the bounce rather than four and a draw but we are five unbeaten now, it keeps us ticking over.
“This was like a First Team game, 3 o’clock kick off and preparation as such.
“That will help their development.”
