Jan Holldack is hopeful that his good early season form will see him get a first-team chance at Griffin Park after joining from 1.FC Koln in the summer.
The 19-year-old German midfielder feels he is improving every day under Lee Carsley and Kevin O’Connor and, after scoring his fourth and fifth goals of the season against Leeds United, hopes he can continue this form to force himself in Marinus Dijkhuizen and Roy Hendriken’s plans.
“I feel that I am getting better every day,” said Jan, speaking to Bees Player after the match. “Lee speaks to me all the time and we have analysis to help me. I have special training on free-kicks and finishing which I am very happy with. Lee speaks to me about what I can do better using his experience in football so that is perfect for me. I like working with Lee and the rest of the team.
“I am very happy at Brentford and they are helping to make me a better player. I want to keep scoring and getting assists and then hopefully I can train with the first-team. I just need to keep going and then see what happens.”
Jan is the Development Squad’s top scorer this season having netted five goals in six Under-21 Professional Development League Two matches this campaign.
The Germany Under-18 International is happy with his goalscoring form but he added that it is the form of the team as a whole that is the most important.
“I am happy to score two goals,” said Jan. “They were easy goals and I must thank the team because they gave me the chance to score. It is good for me to score goals because it helps me to push myself and give more. It is important that Marinus and Roy see that I can score but also see that the team is playing well too.”
The attacking midfielder was speaking after the Development Squad’s 2-2 draw with Leeds United at Jersey Road which ended a run of back-to-back defeats.
Euan Mulhern scored twice, either side of Jan’s brace, the second coming with four minutes to play, to ensure that the sides left with, what Jan described as, a fair point each.
Jan said: “I think in the first-half we didn’t play well. We held onto the ball too long and we needed to play it quicker. In the second-half we were better than Leeds United and scored our two goals. In the last five minutes they got it back to 2-2 but that was fair because Leeds were better in the first-half and we were better in the second-half.
“At half-time Kevin and Lee told us we needed to play better because we were a better team than Leeds with first-team players playing. We weren’t happy to concede in the last five minutes but we are happy with the point. Leeds gave us time and space so we needed to move the ball quicker because we were spending too long on the ball.”
