Despite the performance on Saturday, which saw Brentford dictate play throughout the afternoon, defender James Tarkowski claimed at this point in the league campaign, points matter.
"We’re very disappointed,” said James.
"We were pleased with the performance – a slight error for the goal [which was] a bit of mis-communication, but then for the rest of the game, we pretty much dominated; it’s unfortunate but we’ve got to move on from there.
"The result is what matters, especially at this time of year when we’ve coming to the end of it."
Middlesbrough fielded their usual formation, but were fortunate to return with all three points.
"We knew how they set up,” said James.
"We played them away and it was exactly the same today.
"ff the ball they are good at what they do, but we had a couple of chances and if one of those goes in, but it wasn't to happen.
“But we need to take our chances, if you don’t score goals you’re not going to win games.
"They've taken their chance and had a couple more when we opened up, but we can still say we dominated the game."
Despite the result, Saturday’s televised match saw the evident improvement of the team since their 4-0 defeat at Teeside last September.
"They outplayed us that day,” said James.
"[The second half] was probably our worst half of football, but today we proved that we’ve improved a lot since then as a team.
"Every week, we come in and train hard, recover well, and we look to go next Saturday and get another three points."
