James Tarkowski said Brentford could have got four or five goals in their Sky Bet League One win over Bradford City, and they would have deserved them.
The Bees beat Bradford 2-0 at Griffin Park on Saturday with Clayton Donaldson scoring the first and George Saville adding a second.
Bradford came to frustrate and it took Brentford an hour to score.
James, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the win, said he felt Brentford were lacking a bit in the final third in the first half.
But he added The Bees opened their visitors up time after time in the second period and could have won more comfortably.
“I thought we did well to a point in the first half, we were just lacking a bit in the final third,” said James.
“We came out after half time and showed why we are where we are in the league.
“We opened them up time after time and it could have been four or five.
“We know we are a good side, we have to get the ball down and play.
“We had plenty of chances and four or five nil would have been deserved.
“It was a good result for us.”
The opening goal came just past the hour mark.
Clayton Donaldson cut inside off the right and fired in a low left foot shot in to the bottom corner.
“That is what Clayton is all about,” said James.
“He nicks a yard and gets a shot off.
“He got past the defender and it was a great strike.
“I have played against Clayton, his pace is unbelievable and he is impossible to catch once he is past you.
“We need to get him in to the right areas, I am not sure we have done that in recent games, today we did.”
Brentford’s win came after they had gone two games without a victory.
They had lost at home to Sky Bet League One leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers and followed that up with a 0-0 draw away to Carlisle United.
Alan Judge also spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the Bradford win.
He said The Bees came out of their shell once they got themselves ahead.
“It is possible a bit of our confidence had gone, but after we got the first goal, the real Brentford came out,” said Alan.
“Players got on the ball and enjoyed it again.
“Once we got the goal we came out of our shell.
“We were much better in the second half.
“We were edgy in the first half, after the goal we were much better.
“We are going to get teams that come here and put people behind the ball.
“We tried to move the ball quickly and tire them out.
“We felt they might be tired by the hour.
“That is when we got the goal.
“We should have won by five or six with the way we played in the second half.”
Brentford have kept back-to-back clean sheets in James’ first two games.
He said his belief was that if they stopped the opposition scoring, The Bees would win games because of their attacking ability.
Their next game is at home to Tranmere Rovers tomorrow, Tuesday March 11.
James said the players felt they could win every game.
“Tranmere will come to stifle us again, but we are used to that now,” he said.
“We have to find the ways and means to get past it.
“We believe we can win every game and have confidence after today.
“We are looking forward to it.”
James joined The Bees at the end of January.
He had to wait for his first start – due to the form of Tony Craig and Harlee Dean in the centre of defence – but said he had settled well.
James has come in to the team as Harlee Dean is injured and he told Bees Player: Match Day Live he felt Brentford was a club that suited him.
“I have really enjoyed it,” he said.
“The people around me have been great and I feel I have been here for a year, even though it has only been four weeks.
“There is plenty to do in London so I am never bored.
“I came here because the system suits me down to the ground.
“I think that is why the manager signed me.
“Brentford is a club that is going places.
“The owner is backing us and if the players and management continue to do what we are doing, there is no reason why this club can’t go in to The Championship and do well there.”
Alan Judge also joined The Bees in January, on loan from Blackburn Rovers.
He said: “I don’t think I have settled in to another club as quickly as I have here.
“The lads are great and the staff are great.
“James has done the same.”
Brentford are third in League One, a point behind Leyton Orient, who are second after drawing with bottom of the table Notts County on Saturday.
They have two games in hand on Orient and are only three points behind leaders Wolves.
“Lots can change in a week,” said Alan.
“Last week some people were saying we were having a blip and we were gone.
“Not many would have thought Notts County would have got a draw.
“But it’s all down to us.
“We just do our own thing.”
Brentford Assistant Manager David Weir also spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the Bradford win.
He said: “Teams are coming, sitting in and making life difficult.
“We seem to say that every week now.
“We struggled a bit in the first half but were really good in the second half.
“We were positive, we played in their half.
“That is a compliment to us.
“We want the players to be bright and positive, we think we have players with lots of ability.
“We want to play quickly and get in to areas where we can hurt teams.”
David said it was great to have players who can score goals like Clayton Donaldson’s opener.
“It was a fantastic finish from Clayton, he looked really lively,” said David.
“The quality of some of our goals recently shows the talent in the squad.
“That is nothing to do with coaching, it is just brilliance.
“It is great to have that in the team.
“George Saville can develop in to a top midfield player who scores goals.
“He got one today and could have had a couple more.
“His performance today was very good, as was the majority of the team.”
David praised Will Grigg, who started against Bradford after a spell as a substitute in recent weeks.
He added the substitutes – Marcello Trotta, Jake Reeves and Stuart Dallas – came on and made a difference and that the whole squad would have a part to play before the end of the season.
“We preach to the players that everyone will have a role to play,” he said.
“March and April are busy months, we have seven games in each month.
“We know we have not got a massive squad, all players will be used and they have to be ready.
“Will Grigg was ready today and showed us, what we already know, he is a talented player at this level.
“The substitutes came on and gave us energy.
“Today was a good example of the subs coming on and making us stronger.”
David added: “We are happy where we are.
“You can look at the table and fixtures all day and worry about this game and that game but we can only affect ourselves.
“After a couple of performances that have maybe had people questioning us, today we came out fighting.
“We had energy, created chances and looked like our old selves.
“We looked like a team that will be at the top of the table at the end of the season.
“We have another big game on Tuesday.
“Night games are a bit special and hopefully we will get a similar performance.”
