Jake Bidwell said the Brentford squad wanted to build on the momentum that has carried them in to the top six of the Sky Bet Championship when the season resumes this week.
The Bees recorded successive wins over Derby County, Nottingham Forest and Millwall in seven days at the start of the month.
They sit sixth in the table ahead of the visit of Fulham on Friday, November 21, and Jake said it could not be regarded as a fluke.
The left back, speaking to Bees Player last week, said the league was taking shape and Brentford were up there.
The players have returned from four days off while there were no Championship fixtures due to international games and Jake said the side wanted to carry on where they left off.
“We are sixth and it is not a fluke,” said Jake.
“Being in November you can’t say it is a good start and we’ll fade away.
“After 15 games the league takes shape, we are right up there after 17.
“We want to have a good break, have a few days off and then come back and carry on the momentum.”
Brentford’s three wins came after three without victory.
Jake said the squad were taking one game at a time and added there was no limit on where they could get.
“We have won the last three but before that we didn’t win in three,” he said.
“Everyone might have been getting edgy.
“A week is a long time in football, as everyone says, it really is.
“It is important not to get too low when we don’t get a result and don’t get carried away with a win.
“We have to take one game at a time, perform as we have done and there is no limit to what we can achieve.”
Jake said the three wins in a week was perfect and it was especially good to go in to the international break with three points.
He said three points allowed the players to relax a bit more.
“It was a perfect week results wise,” said Jake.
“Three wins out of three is good for a weeks’ work.
“We were three without a win before that so it was important to get back on the right track.
“To round it off with a win going in to the international break was great.
“We have won every game going in to the breaks so I don’t know what it feels like not to.
“But you can enjoy the break more knowing you have done as much as you can.
“You can then use the break to rest and then carry on.”
Jake said it was important to use the days off well.
“We have had breaks twice and have gained rewards,” he said.
“We have gone in on a win and got good results following.
“We can recharge the mind and body.
“We have tough challenges ahead; you have to use the breaks when you can.”
Brentford were 1-0 down to Derby at half time in the first of the three wins in a week.
Jake said confidence built and The Bees wanted to carry it on.
“Looking back to Derby we showed them too much respect in the first half,” he said.
“We showed what we could do in the second half; we were on top for the whole second half.
“That breeds confidence going in to Nottingham Forest and Millwall.
“This is a great place to be at the moment.
“There is no limit to what we can achieve.
“We just want to carry on for as long as we can.”
Jake said he was enjoying life in the Championship.
He said mistakes were punished but he was relishing the challenge.
“I am really enjoying it,” Jake said.
“It is where I want to play football.
“I have played pretty much every game, the team is doing well, which helps, and I am enjoying the challenge.
“It is different at this level, especially for a defender.
“We know that if we make half a mistake we will be punished.
“In League One you could make that mistake two or three times and not get punished.
“It is a bigger test physically; there are bigger, stronger, quicker players.
“But I have enjoyed every minute so far.”
Brentford’s next match is the first league clash with Fulham for more than 15 years.
Jake is looking forward to it but treating it as any other match.
“We are aware that it is Fulham and it means a lot to the fanes but we will approach it the way we approach any game,” he said.
“We think we can win the game.
“We will have a plan in place to do it.
“Preparation will be no different but we know it is Fulham and it is a big deal to a lot of people.
“Games like this are part of the Championship challenge.
“Playing a derby, at home, under the lights, all means it is going to be a great game.”
