Jake Bidwell said he always knew Brentford would have enough to get the goals they needed to beat Tranmere Rovers.
The Bees beat the Merseyside club 2-0 at Griffin Park last night.
Jake crossed for James Tarkowski to head home the first just past the hour mark and Clayton Donaldson headed the second soon after.
The game followed a similar pattern to Brentford’s win over Bradford City three days earlier.
Jake said Tranmere, like Bradford, tried to frustrate and hang on for a point and Brentford played a little too deep in the first half.
He said as soon as The Bees upped the tempo, as requested by Brentford Manager Mark Warburton at half time, the goals came.
Bradford were also beaten 2-0 with two second half strikes and Jake said that proved Brentford will get their rewards for the way they play.
“Like Bradford, Tranmere seemed to try and hang on as long as they could,” said the left back.
“We know with the quality we have got and the fitness of the lads, it is only a matter of time before we break teams down.
“It can be frustrating in the first 45 minutes but we have to keep at it.
“We have proved in the last two games we can get our rewards.
“I think we have earned the respect off teams over the course of the season that they will sit deep against us.
“They are trying to do what they can, play the way they feel best to get a point or three.
“With the quality we have got, it is a matter of time before we break teams down.
“At half time the gaffer told us to be patient.
“He wanted us to move the ball quicker and get higher up the pitch, hurt them a bit more.
“I think we did that.
“The tempo was raised and they couldn’t live with us.”
Jake, speaking to Bees Player after the win, said he was pleased to make a contribution with his assist.
He said he worked hard at his delivery and he practiced putting the ball in the right areas.
Jake added he was happy that Brentford kept their third successive clean sheet in the win.
“It probably wasn’t my best game but I was pleased to make a contribution,” he said.
“I work hard at those sorts of things.
“I was pleased with a clean sheet at the other end as well.
“It is different from a dead ball but you try to put it in the right area, hopefully someone will attack it.
“James Tarkowski got on the end of one in the first half and the goalkeeper made a good save.
“Thankfully the second one came in and we got a breakthrough.”
Tranmere came close to ending Brentford’s clean sheet run.
They hit the crossbar twice in the first half and David Button made a couple of saves.
“Defensively, they caused us a couple of problems but that is our third clean sheet on the bounce now,” said Jake.
“Hopefully we can carry that on in to Saturday.
“We have good competition for places.
“Everyone is on their toes and we want to carry the momentum on.”
Brentford started with a diamond midfield system with Alan Judge in behind Clayton Donaldson and Will Grigg.
Jake explained it wasn’t very different to the 4-3-3 Brentford had used for much of the season and he was enjoying it.
“When we played 4-3-3, Alan Judge ended up inside a lot of the time,” he said.
“This system is not a massive difference.
“Maybe I am higher up the pitch and there is more emphasis on me to provide the width but I am happy to be playing, fit again after my injury, and glad to be in a winning side.
“I enjoy the role, I like to join in when I can.”
Brentford’s second home win in three days left them third in League One.
They are three points behind leaders Wolverhampton Wanderers and one behind Leyton Orient, who are second.
The Bees face Orient away from home on Saturday.
Jake said the players had not been thinking about that match but he was sure everyone was looking forward to it.
“Back to back home games can be a springboard to kick on,” he said.
“There was some talk of a blip after one loss and one draw [to Wolves and Carlisle United].
“If that is a blip we will take that.
“We have a big game on Saturday now.
“We have been concentrating on the next game.
“Six points from the home games mean we can concentrate on Orient.
“We have to look at it as another game.
“If you look to far ahead, that is when you slip up.
“We have to be professional and take the games at they come.
“These are the games to play in.
“I am sure everyone is looking forward to Saturday and we have a foundation to get a result.”
