Jake Bidwell hopes that the point salvaged at home to Millwall on Saturday will prove to be a valuable one as the Sky Bet Championship season heads towards its conclusion.
The Bees found themselves 2-0 down at home to Millwall 20 minutes after the break following goals from Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien.
An Alex Pritchard penalty gave Mark Warburton’s side hope with four minutes to play and Moses Odubajo secured a point in injury time with a calm finish.
Despite going into the game looking for the three points Jake was pleased that The Bees were able to leave with something after the match.
The defender admitted that they fell well below their standards but felt they showed good resolve to come away with a point.
“The standards that we have set for ourselves this season we weren’t up to that today,” said Jake.
“If we want to get where we want to be and get into that top two then today are the types of matches that we have to win.
“No disrespect to Millwall but we fancy ourselves at home and these are the types of games we need to be winning.
“We might look back at the end of the season and think that could be a valuable point.
“Sometimes it is difficult to analyse when you are involved in the game but our play was a bit too slow.
“Credit to them that they slowed the game down at every chance that they got but we needed to get back up to our tempo and hurt them.
“We weren’t at the standard that we have set ourselves this season.
“The positive is that although we haven’t played as well as we can we have still come away with a point which says something about the spirit of the lads.
“We go on the international break to have a bit of a rest and regroup and hopefully we come back firing after that.
“We will look at the goals on Monday, like we always do, and try to put it right for after the break.”
After getting their equaliser The Bees pressed for a winner but couldn’t complete a remarkable late turnaround.
The final ten minutes were an end to end affair which Jake admitted took a lot out of the players.
The defender said the second Millwall goal was a real sucker punch for the side but thought it was real credit to the boys to get back into the match.
“We were putting pressure on the whole of the second-half but it was a bit of a sucker punch with their second goal,” said Jake.
“It is credit to the lads that we got back into the game and hopefully we will look back on that point at the end of the season and it will prove to be a vital one.
“There were a few minutes added on and we had the momentum so I fancied us to go on and get the winner but it wasn’t to be.
“It was hard work to be honest and we went to three at the back chasing the winner.
“At the end about 10 players collapsed to the floor which showed the tempo of the game.
“Both teams were fighting for their lives for different reasons and one point is better than none.”
The Bees go on an international break now with their next match coming on Good Friday against Fulham.
With just seven matches of the season to go Jake believes there is a lot of pressure on the side as they fight for promotion to the Premier League.
However the 22-year-old said it is a nice pressure to be under and that The Bees have to embrace that pressure.
“Only time will tell after the break whether it benefitted us or not,” said Jake.
“All we can do is go in Monday morning analyse the game and go again after the break.
“Both teams are under pressure for different reasons but you would rather have the pressure that we are under than what they are under.
“It is a nice pressure and we have to embrace it.”
