Jake Bidwell spoke to Bees Player about his decision to commit to Brentford for another three years.
The left back now has 116 appearances for Brentford, and signed a new deal that will keep him at Griffin Park until the summer of 2017.
“This is going into my fourth season,” said Jake.
“And each season the Club’s improved massively - everyone can see that.
“We’re going into the Championship this year and as a young player it’s just a great place to be at the minute.
“Everything’s moving forward and going in the right direction and I’m just made up to be a part of it.”
Before his acceptance of a new contract, social media stories circulated that his future may lay elsewhere.
“I don’t think you can pay much notice to that,” said Jake.
“The amount of people that are on twitter doing for attention, things like that; I don’t see any need to look anywhere else.”
Brentford’s pre-season campaign has seen a rarity – a Jake Bidwell goal.
The 21-year-old has not scored for The Bees in a competitive game but netted his first in the 3-1 win at Boreham Wood.
“It finally happened,” said Jake.
“If I can add another couple of goals into my game by the end of the season that would be nice.
“Apart from the goal, to win the two games is good, but the performances have been too.
“The main test will come in the next three games coming up, we’ll exactly where we are there, but we’ve done everything asked of us so far, so it’s a decent start.”
Aside from signing a new deal, Jake will also wear the number three squad number after Scott Barron’s departure left it up for grabs.
“It’s just a number; anyone can play - if you think otherwise it’s a bit silly,” said Jake.
“Bob the Kit Man offered it to me over the summer and I took it.”
With a long career ahead of him, Bees Player asked if he saw himself being a Brentford player for many years to come.
“At the minute there’s no reason to be looking anywhere else, or moving,” said Jake.
“My career is going in the right direction, and so is the Club.”
