Tony Craig said Brentford’s 2-1 npower League One win over Swindon Town was a great game to be involved in.
The Bees scored twice in four second half minutes to come from a goal down to win.
Clayton Donaldson won a penalty that was converted by Sam Saunders and then scored the second from a Tom Adeyemi knock down to win it.
Swindon had gone ahead in the first half when Harlee Dean was robbed by Gary Roberts as he tried to bring the ball out of defence and Simon Ferry scored.
Tony, speaking to The Bees Player Show after the match, said Swindon had an unbelievable work rate in the first half but they tired and Brentford took the momentum and the points.
“It was a great game to be involved in from start to finish,” said the defender.
“Give Swindon their due, in the first half they came at us.
“I wouldn’t say it took us by surprise but their work rate was unbelievable.
“It seemed they tired a bit at the end and in the last 20 minutes we had the momentum.
“From front to back Swindon pressured us all round the pitch.
“It worked for them in the first half but they ran out of puff, we had a bit in the tank and overran them at the end.”
Clayton Donaldson also spoke to The Bees Player Show after the final whistle.
The striker could have put Brentford ahead when he missed the target with only Swindon goalkeeper Wes Foderingham to beat in the first half but played a key role in the comeback.
He said Brentford showed great character to respond to the miss and falling behind and paid tribute to the back room staff for keeping the players fit enough to come back to win.
“Being 1-0 down and me missing a brilliant chance in the first half, Harlee making a mistake, everyone’s heads could have gone down,” said Clayton.
“But we got in at half time, re-grouped and the Manager [Uwe Rösler] said to continue doing what we were doing.
“We knew they wouldn’t be able to play at that high a tempo for the entire game and we would be able to get at them in the second half, which we did.
“We got the penalty at the right time and when we got that goal they were there for the taking.
“I needed the winner for my confidence and the team needed it.
“The fact we didn’t let our heads drop shows we had great character to get the win.
“We showed great fitness.
“Our medical and conditioning staff have been brilliant and that showed at the end.
“Not many teams come from behind against Swindon.”
Two second half substitutes helped turn the game in Brentford’s favour.
Sam Saunders scored the equaliser and gave Brentford a new dimension on the left while Bradley Wright-Phillips played the pass for Clayton Donaldson to go through for the penalty.
Tony told The Bees Player Show the duo made a difference.
“Sam came on and did really well,” he said.
“Bradley Wright-Phillips needs credit as well, he changed the game, he gave us a bit of speed up front, we turned them.
“Sam stepped up and took the penalty.
“We have missed a few and he took it well.”
Tony also had praise for Harlee Dean.
“Harlee has been superb all season,” he said.
“I think people forget how young he is.
“He is 21-years-old and has played 40 odd games at centre half, there aren’t many players of his age doing that.
“It is a learning curve, all the boys got behind him after his mistake.
“When I play next to him, he is a pleasure to play with.”
Brentford sit third in npower League One, a point behind Sheffield United in second.
They have nine games remaining, the first of which is against Preston North End on Saturday.
“We are in a great position,” said Tony.
“We are third in the league with nine games to go and we have to play the top two.
“As a player, it doesn’t get better than that.
“We want to get promotion this season.
“We will take every game as it comes and we want to enjoy it, but you can only enjoy it by winning.
“We are a point off second but one off sixth.
“It was a massive win tonight and hopefully we can take the momentum through.”
