Speaking to iFollow Brentford after the game, Andreas said: “It was a good win and nice to get the three points. I think we deserved the win even though at the end it became a little bit of a battle and they had some small chances. We could have scored two or three goals with some of the counter-attacks that we had. We showed some aggression and that we are a good team which is difficult to beat. We had to put in the hard work and a solid performance, which I think we did. In football you have to seek the luck and we have done that by playing well, being solid at the back, and creating the chances. If you do that then you get the luck.”
The Danish international has struck up an impressive partnership with youngster Chris Mepham in recent weeks with The Bees keeping three clean sheets in their last four league games. With Andreas a veteran of nearly 300 professional games and Chris just starting out, the 29-year-old feels there’s a really good balance at the heart of The Bees backline which is only getting stronger as the weeks go on.
“It is important for us, especially with the new lad in Chris Mepham in there and Dan Bentley in goal, to keep a clean sheet and move onto the next game,” said Andreas. “We have proved that we are difficult to play against. Chris is a good player but he is still young and has lots to learn, that is why they are playing him next to me so that he can learn off me. If he has any problems then I tell him to give the ball to me and I will find a solution. He has done well and deserves to be in the team. If you want to develop a team and want to develop a partnership then you have to play week-in week-out. We have done that for the last few weeks now and you can see that the whole team have developed because of it.”
Saturday’s game saw just shy of 3,000 Bees fans make the trip to The Madejski Stadium in support of their team. Andreas admitted it was a great lift to see that many fans there backing the team but insists that the team need to get over the game quickly and focus on next week’s visit from Norwich City.
“It is impressive to see that many people here,” said Andreas. “It isn’t a far journey but 3,000 showing up to see us play Reading, we haven’t seen that many before. It was a great lift for us and it was great to give them a result. You could hear their belief after the game. For us, as a young team, it is important to take it one game, and one step, at a time. There are still a lot of games to go and a lot of tough teams to play so it is about the next game and nothing else.”
