Shaleum Logan said winning is all that matters in this afternoon’s npower League One Play-Off Semi-Final Second Leg.
Brentford take on Swindon Town at Griffin Park at 4.30pm today, Monday May 6, with a place in the League One Play-Off Final up for grabs.
The teams drew 1-1 in Wiltshire on Saturday in the first match of the two-legged tie and all will be settled this afternoon.
Massimo Luongo put Swindon ahead but Kevin O’Connor scored a stoppage time penalty to leave the tie level at the half way stage.
Shaleum spoke to The Bees Player Show after the first leg and said Brentford needed the late goal.
He said the performance was not important in the second match, all that mattered was winning.
“We came in to this game and knew we needed to give ourselves a chance back at Griffin Park,” said Shaleum.
“With the goal right at the end we will go in favourites.
“We know it will be hard but we could have been one down, we knew we needed to score.
“We are confident we will come out with a victory.
“Sometimes it is not always about the performance.
“We will take playing terrible and winning 1-0.
“It is about winning no matter what.
“It would be good if we could all put in a good performance but it is a results business.”
The Bees fell behind with 20 minutes remaining of the first tie but ended the match well and found a way to level.
Shaleum started the move and Jonathan Douglas was involved before Harry Forrester was brought down.
Kevin O’Connor calmly slotted home from 12 yards to level it up.
The late spot kick came a week after Brentford had missed one in similar circumstances to agonisingly fall just short of automatic promotion.
A win over Doncaster Rovers last week would have given Brentford a top two finish and a place in The Championship but Marcello Trotta missed a stoppage time penalty and the visitors broke away to score and win the game.
Shaleum said Kevin was the man for a pressure penalty and he had no doubt he would score.
He added the match against Swindon was even more important than the one against Doncaster.
“I just wanted to get the ball as close to the goal as possible,” said Shaleum.
“I sometimes feel I get a second wind late in the game and that was definitely the case today.
“I passed it inside and it went to Harry, it was definitely a pen.
“Kevin was always going to take it.
“We discussed it before the game.
“It may have been different if he wasn’t on the pitch but I was 100 per cent confident he would score.
“He is the man for the job when the pressure is on.
“Sometimes it takes a goal against us for us to really puff our chests out.
“We have a never-say-die attitude in the changing room.
“We are all fighting for it.
“We are so close.
“Monday is now bigger for us than last week was.”
