There were two draws and a defeat for Brentford's three players in international action on Saturday.
Sergi Canos started for Spain's Under-19s as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Georgia in the Elite Round of Qualifying for this summer's Under-19 European Championships. Irakli Bidzinashvili gave the Georgians a surprise early lead in Cartaya but that was cancelled out by Borja Mayoral just before the break. Sergi was withdrawn at the interval as Luis de la Fuente's dominated the second-half without finding a way past an organised Georgian defence. The draw sets up a winner takes all match against England on Tuesday for a place at this summer's championships in Germany.
Injury restricted John Swift to just 27 minutes for England's Under-21s in their 1-1 draw against Switzerland in Thun. John came close to opening the scoring early on before being replaced by Jordan Ibe after a tackle in the first-half. Gareth Southgate's side then took the lead through Chuba Akpom two minutes after the break. England created chance after chance in the second-half but were punished with 15 minutes to go as The Swiss broke and Florian Kamberi fired low past Jordan Pickford. The result means England stay top of Group Nine, three points clear of today's opponents, with three qualifers remaining.
Ian Carlo Poveda started for England's Under-16s as they missed out on a place in the final of the Montaigu Tourmanent after a 3-1 defeat to Brazil in Le Poiré sur Vie. After picking up four points from their opening two matches Dan Micciche's side knew that a win would be good enough to secure top spot in Group B and a place in Monday's final. Manchester United's Angel Gomes gave The Young Lions a perfect start with an early goal but Brazil hit back, scoring three unanswered goals, to leave England third in the pool. They will now face a Fifth/Sixth Play-Off match against Northern Ireland on Monday while the USA and France contest the main final.
