Sergi Canos missed out on a place at this summer’s Under-19 European Championships after Spain were beaten 2-0 by England in their final Elite Qualifying Round game on Tuesday. Both sides went into the match with four points from their first two matches, Spain knowing that they only had to avoid defeat to secure their place at this summer’s tournament in Germany. However it wasn’t to be for Sergi, who picked up his fourth Under-19 cap after appearing as a second-half substitute, as Aidy Boothroyd’s side netted in each half through Josh Onomah and Adam Armstrong to take top spot and secure their place in Germany this July.
Elsewhere Lasse Vibe and Alan Judge were unused substitutes for Denmark and the Republic of Ireland respectively in friendly matches last night. Lasse watched on as Matt Ritchie’s eighth minute goal gave Scotland the win at Hampden Park while in Dublin first-half penalties from Shane Long and James McClean earned Martin O’Neill’s side a 2-2 draw against fellow Euro 2016 qualifiers Slovenia.
