David Button said it was important for Brentford to find a way of winning when they were not at their best, as they did against Walsall yesterday.
The Bees secured their third home win of the season as Clayton Donaldson scored the only goal on a wet and wild afternoon at Griffin Park.
David, speaking to Bees Player after the game, said he thought Brentford had played well in the conditions and ground out a 1-0 win.
“We got the win, that’s the most important thing,” he said.
“The gaffer said we won’t always play the top end football, it is important to grind out a result when we don’t play as well as we can, which we did today.
“The conditions meant we had to adjust our game.
“I thought the lads did very well.”
David kept his first clean sheet in a Brentford shirt in the win, making a few important saves.
The goalkeeper said the lack of a clean sheet in his first three games had not been an issue but keeping one against Walsall was vital.
“A clean sheet is something we have been working towards after conceding in the first few games,” he said.
“It turned out to be vital today.
“I don’t think not keeping clean sheets affects confidence, it is the manner of the goals you concede that can affect it.
“I am there to make saves when called upon.
“It is nice to get something to do.
“The back four and the midfield were excellent.
“I haven’t had a lot to do in the past few games.”
David joined Brentford a few days before the start of the season when Simon Moore was sold to Cardiff City.
He said he has loved his time at Griffin Park so far but feels there is more to come performance-wise.
He said if Brentford continued to average two points a game as they had done for the first four they would end up with a good total.
“I have loved it so far,” said David.
“I feel I have settled in.
“Performance-wise, I feel there is room for improvement but in terms of the lads and staff, I do feel at home.
“In the first half today my kicking could have been better.
“I have to adjust to a different style of play.
“It will take a few more games but I feel it is getting better.
“We are still unbeaten and average two points a game, if we keep that up it will give us a good amount of points.”
