Brentford made their first signing of the summer on Wednesday when goalkeeper Jack Bonham arrived from Watford on a two year contract.
In an exclusive interview with Bees Player, he said: “In my last year at Watford I was told that they were undecided on whether they would give me a contract or not, and said I was allowed to go into the market and look at other clubs.
“The goalkeeping coach at Watford knew Mark Warburton, and he said to come down for a few days training, so I came down for a few days before the first Play-Off game, got involved in training, met the manager, staff and players.”
On his arrival, the rest of the squad helped him settle in.
“Everyone was welcoming; Simon Royce the goalkeeping coach was very friendly and training was really good, getting involved straight away with the First Team.
“I felt after being here, I didn’t need to go anywhere else, the interest from the manager and goalkeeping coach was enough to bring me here.”
After an Academy upbringing with Watford, this summer closes a chapter on his football career at Vicarage Road.
He said: “I spent six years there, it was my first professional club; I also went through their schooling system that they have at the Academy.
“That’s football, you have to move on and hopefully here I’ll be able to progress my career.
“I’m here to make a point, I didn’t end the season at Watford very well but I want to come back stronger; I’ve been working hard in the summer to get fitter, on things I can do better and hopefully push Simon for the number one and when Richard [Lee] comes back from injury, try and keep the place from him.”
