Ilias Chatzitheodoridis thinks Brentford will help to bring the best out of him as he moves across London from North to West. The 18-year-old completed his move from Arsenal, on a one-year deal, earlier today after a successful trial period with The Bees. The left-back told Bees Player that he is looking forward to getting started with his new teammates and showing what he is all about.
“I am excited to be here,” Ilias told Bees Player. “Brentford is a big Championship club and I will improve a lot. The coaches are good as are the boys. I met them on trial and the relationship is very good. I am a left-back but I like to go forward, get crosses in the box and be involved in the attacking part. I have a year to impress and to show that I am different and can get to the first team.”
The defender spent six years with Arsenal, formerly with their Academy in Greece before a two-year spell with the Youth Team at London Colney. The defender trained alongside the first-team at Arsenal for part of his time with The Gunners and feels that experience really helped to bring his game along.
“It was a good experience at Arsenal,” said Ilias. “I improved a lot as a player and it was a very good step for my career. I was 12 when they picked me up from the Greek Arsenal academy. I spent four years there while coming to England for training to see how I was improving. In my last year in Greece I came to England for a trial to see if I could get a contract here. I did well and signed a contract here when I was 16. After six months I trained with the first-team and that was a great experience. The game was very quick and it was good for me.
