Stuart Dallas said Brentford’s Sky Bet Championship loss to Huddersfield Town was a hard one to take.
The Bees were beaten 2-1 in Yorkshire yesterday afternoon, ending a run of five straight wins.
The home side went ahead in the first half and then doubled their lead early in the second half.
Jonathan Douglas scored for The Bees with 20 minutes remaining and the visitors, who had chances to go ahead before their hosts did, pressed for a leveller.
Huddersfield goalkeeper Alex Smithies made a string of saves throughout the 90 minutes and one Douglas shot look destined for the net before home defender Tommy Smith blocked it with his face on the line.
Stuart, speaking to Bees Player after the match, admitted Brentford should have taken their chances but added they did not get the luck their play deserved.
“It is a bit hard to take today,” said the Northern Irishman.
“We thought we could come here and get a result because of the way we have been playing.
“In the second half we battered them but couldn’t get the second goal.
“That is football, we have to take our chances.
“You can always do more but the keeper has made two or three good saves, there has been a block on the line from Dougie.
“You need a bit of luck and we didn’t have it today.
“We will dust ourselves down, come in on Monday and prepare for Blackburn.”
There were lots of chances throughout the match at both ends with the teams looking to attack.
Chances increased late on as Brentford pressed and Smithies was regularly in the action.
Stuart said Brentford responded well to having to chase the game but just couldn’t score.
“When we went 2-0 down we had to take chances, that opened the game up,” he said.
“We had to get forward, it left gaps at the back.
“I always felt we could get back in to it but we didn’t have that bit of luck today.
“The second goal was a blow, conceding one at any stage is a blow.
“But that’s football.
“We responded well but couldn’t get the second goal.”
Stuart said Brentford would put the defeat behind them and prepare for next Saturday’s match against Blackburn Rovers at Griffin Park.
“We have a great togetherness in the squad,” he said.
“We never gave up today and we showed, not just today, in other games as well, that we go right to the death.
“It is disappointing and hard to take but we have to get on with it and prepare for Saturday.
“It would take a very, very good team to go the whole season without losing a game.
“We have lost one after winning five on the bounce.
“It is one defeat, we will come in on Monday and prepare for Saturday.”
