Lee Hodson, who has signed on loan from Watford until January 13, had no hesitation in joining The Bees once he became aware of the West London club’s interest.
The 21-year-old full-back has racked up over 100 appearances for The Hornets in The Championship as well as winning nine caps for Northern Ireland.
Lee said that once Mark Warburton phoned him to enquire about a loan deal he didn’t take much persuading to agree.
“Mark Warburton gave me a call last week and said that he was very interested in bringing me to Brentford,” said Lee.
“At the moment I’m not involved at Watford and I want to go out and play football. Mark was telling me about Brentford and he sold it to me straight away.
“The position that the club is in the league; the fact that they are on a good run and the ambition that they have got all inspired me to come here and to try to do my best and to try to help the club.
“There have been a few Watford lads here recently and they have all given me great reports about the club and that has spurred me on to come here even more.”
A change in Watford’s formation this season has seen Lee’s playing time limited but the full-back who is comfortable on both sides of the defence knows that he will have to impress before getting his chance in the first team.
“I have to come here and prove why I want to be playing,” said Lee.
“I don’t expect to walk straight into the team.
“The team has been on a good run at the moment so I am just going to go into training, try my best and when the manager gives me my chance I want to go out there and do my best for the club and give good performances.
“I am looking forward to getting down the training ground and meeting the lads and the manager will be exciting times.
“Obviously we have a big game on Saturday United at home and so I am looking forward to that.
“It will be nice if I am involved but I don’t expect to walk straight in so I need to prove myself in training and when I do get the chance, to take it.”
With Uwe Rösler encouraging his full-backs to get forward to support attacks Lee is confident that this will suit his attacking nature.
“The best part of my game is getting forward and this season at Watford I haven’t really had the opportunity to play full-back with the formation that Watford are playing at the moment.
“Getting forward is a big part of my game and if the manager wants me to do that then I will try my best and give him what he wants.”
Watford currently sit 10th in The Championship and have won three of their last four games and Lee says it is great to move from one squad playing with confidence to another.
Lee said: “Watford have got a great squad and are doing well and I think they will continue on that run.”
“But here, I am joining another squad which is doing well and is up near the top of the league and that has given me the confidence to come here and play my football.”
