Paul Hayes has received a special accolade after scoring his first two Brentford goals on Saturday.
The striker scored twice in Brentford’s 2-2 draw with Hartlepool United at Griffin Park – smashing home after picking up a Jonathan Douglas lay-off and then heading in a Clayton Donaldson cross.
Although the goals did not give The Bees three points, Paul’s performance earned him a place in the League One Team of the Week, announced yesterday.
Paul was selected as one of two strikers in the line-up, along with David McGoldrick of Coventry City, who scored the winner as his team won at Leyton Orient a few days after scoring at Griffin Park when The Bees beat The Sky Blues.
He was the only Brentford player in the team while Coventry, Doncaster Rovers and Milton Keynes Dons had two each.
The other four players were drawn from AFC Bournemouth, Colchester United, Swindon Town and Yeovil Town.

Paul is the fifth Brentford player to be named in the Team of the Week this season.
Clayton Donaldson has been named twice, after scoring a brace in the win over Crawley Town earlier this month and also after netting two in the 5-1 win over Crewe Alexandra, as has Farid El Alagui, who was selected after the wins against Colchester and Crewe.
The other Brentford players to have been given the nod this season are Simon Moore – for his performance in the home win over Oldham – and Shaleum Logan, after the 1-1 draw with Scunthorpe United.
