Harry Forrester said he went out to try and “make things happen” during his substitute appearance for Brentford against AFC Bournemouth.
The midfield man scored the equaliser for The Bees in a 2-2 draw on the south coast, his first goal in professional football.
He said Brentford boss Uwe Rösler told him to go out and influence the game and he was pleased he was able to do so.
“It was my first ever goal, so I was always going to enjoy it,” said Harry, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“The manager has belief in me and what I do going forward.
“I know I still have to learn the game.
“He wanted me to go on and make things happen, either score a goal or make a goal.
“To try and influence the team in some way.
“I managed to get the ball in high areas and get at the full back.
“Luckily one of them paid off.”
The equaliser came when Clayton Donaldson picked Harry out on the left and he cut inside before curling an effort home.
He had gone close with a similar effort earlier in the match.
Harry said he wanted to celebrate his goal with more than 500 Brentford fans who had made the trip down to supporter the team.
“I had a good feeling when it left my foot,” he said.
“I had one before that I thought was in.
“I used the defender and put it in.
“I had a lot of things planned for my first ever goal and didn’t do any of them.
“I wanted to celebrate with the fans, it was for them.
“They deserve it as much as I do.
“It was one of the best moments of my career so far, I’ve been waiting a long time for the first goal.
“It was good to get it finally.”
Brentford took an early lead against The Cherries but Bournemouth hit back.
They went in 2-1 ahead at the break before Harry grabbed the equaliser.
The midfield man said he thought it was a “great point”.
“The boys battled really hard in the second half, they couldn’t respond to us,” he said.
“We knew if we put in a performance we’d come out with something.
“It’s a great point.
“Bournemouth are a very good football team.
“If you’d offered us a point before the game, we might have taken that.
“We are very, very happy.”
