Harlee Dean said the Brentford players had belief they would find a way to earn themselves a point against Preston North End.
The Bees trailed going in to the last minutes but Antonio German headed an equaliser to give his team a 1-1 draw.
Preston had gone ahead in the second half when Scott Laird luckily bounced a shot past Simon Moore when he was free from the umpteenth ball pumped in to the Brentford penalty area.
Harlee said a point was the minimum Brentford wanted from the match.
“This is definitely a good point,” said the defender, speaking to Bees Player after the match.
“A point is the minimum we wanted and when you get it through a last minute goal, it’s always a bonus.
“I think their goal was lucky.
“I don’t really know what happened, the ball has come in, their guy has miss-hit it and it’s gone in.
“We knew they would try and out-battle us, they were never going to out-play us.
“This team has real belief that when we do go behind we aren’t going to lose.
“We have scored several goals at the death, that’s really good.”
Harlee said Brentford could be pleased with the way they competed.
“Everyone knows about this Preston team and the sort of teams [Preston Manager] Graham Westley puts out,” he said.
“They have big units and all they want to do is battle.
“If you win the battle you are half way there.
“We competed well and we will be pleased with a point.
“This is a big stadium and to come here and get a point is good.”
Brentford changed from a 4-4-1-1 system to a 4-1-4-1 shape during the match and Harlee said that helped The Bees improve after Preston had the better of the first half.
“When you play different teams there are different ways to attack them,” he said.
“Preston want the ball in the air.
“In the first half we didn’t really play at all.
“We changed the formation and a few personnel in the second half and mixed it up.
“We caused them trouble.
“The desire and passion to not lose got us the point.”
Harlee played a key role in Brentford’s equaliser.
He picked the ball up, burst forward, exchanged passes with Jonathan Douglas and cross for Antonio German to score.
“I have been having a tough time recently, I haven’t been consistent,” he said.
“My confidence hasn’t been that great.
“I wanted to have a good, solid game today.
“I never want to lose.
“I had desire to make the run forward, get it back from Jonathan Douglas and put a good ball in.
“I just crossed it and had to stop running before I smashed my head in to something.
“I didn’t see what happened but I saw the ball in the back of the net.
“It was a great feeling.
“I’m happy for Antonio.
“To come off the bench and score is good for him.”
Brentford travel to Swindon Town, who are third in npower League One, on Tuesday before Sheffield United, who are second, come to Griffin Park on Saturday.
Harlee said Brentford were not worried about their opponents.
“This is a big week for us but we don’t fear anyone,” said Harlee.
“We will make mistakes – I made one last week – but that is because we want to play.
“We try to find passes rather than smashing the ball up the field.
“We are trying to get up the division the right way.
“That’s very different to what Preston are trying to do – they are trying to get up by smashing people.”
Harlee is currently sporting a beard as the Brentford players take part in Movember.
“Myself, Paul Hayes and Jonathan Douglas said we would grow full beards,” he said.
“I regret that, I just want to get rid of it.
“But it’s all for a good cause, we want to raise awareness and as much money as possible.
“I have said if I get £300 raised on our page in my name, I will dye my beard red and white for the first home game in December.
“I know I look about 33 but what can you do.”
