Harlee Dean said the overriding feeling after Brentford were beaten 4-0 by Middlesbrough was one of embarrassment.
The Bees were beaten at the Riverside Stadium yesterday, their second loss in four days.
The defeat came after a 3-0 reverse against Norwich City at Griffin Park on Tuesday.
Harlee said Brentford could argue they had the better of things against Norwich and should have had a penalty at 1-0 down that may have earned them a point but there were no such claims against Middlesbrough.
The defender, speaking to Bees Player after the match, said there was a lot that went wrong and Brentford had to improve.
“We are disappointed but more embarrassed than anything,” said Harlee.
“We have conceded seven goals in two games.
“Maybe we could say we were better than Norwich on Tuesday, we conceded three and it was unfair.
“Today we conceded four and it deserved to be more.
“We have a lot of things to change and a lot to put right.
“All we can do is apologise to the fans that made the journey and paid the money for the ticket.
“Everything went wrong.
“We gave the ball away too much in the final third, didn’t get it in the middle third enough.
“We got on the ball at the back and there were no options.
“Middlesbrough did their homework and stopped us playing.
“When we did play the quality was bad, they were counter attacking and the ball was coming down our throats.
“We conceded just after half time, which killed us.
“We have to improve.”
Harlee said Middlesbrough broke quickly when they got the ball, which put pressure on The Bees.
He said Brentford had to ensure the same did not happen next week when they face Leeds United at Griffin Park.
“They have to get credit, they beat us 4-0 and did it at a canter,” said the defender.
“They set up and hit us on the counter at home.
“They let us play in front and when they got the ball they had a chance in ten seconds.
“In this league teams take their chances and we can’t give them that.
“We have a lot to improve on this week.
“We have to make it right; if we don’t we will get beat again next week.”
Harlee said Brentford Manager Mark Warburton had instigated a post-match debrief.
He defender said the Brentford boss had called on his side to talk more on the pitch.
Harlee said the players had to be willing to accept comments from others when the game was in progress.
He admitted he had not played at his top level and everyone in the dressing room had to have the same internal look in order for progress to be made.
“In our discussion after the match the gaffer said we needed to talk more,” said Harlee.
“He didn’t really say that much, he asked the questions, a few people said a few things and the conversation started.
“It has to be like that, and on the pitch as well.
“We need to encourage each other on the pitch and not argue, if something is said it has to be accepted.
“Opposition fans pick up on it and it gets them going.
“It is easy to play when you’re winning; we have to do it even when we’re losing.
“There is determination to put it right.
“It looks terrible for the defence, conceding seven goals.
“We have to be honest with each other.
“I won’t hide and say I had a great game.
“Everyone else has to take the same attitude.”
Harlee said ultimately Brentford had to take their chances and stop making defensive mistakes.
“We did see a top of the Championship game today but we did against Norwich and we could have won or drawn that,” he said.
“In this league you have to take your chances.
“If you don’t get the breaks, and we aren’t at the minute, you have to make sure you don’t concede more goals.
“We need a clean sheet or to score a goal.
“We haven’t done either in the last two games.”
