Harlee Dean said there is more to come from Brentford after beating Crewe Alexandra 5-1 last Saturday.
The Bees picked up their first win of the 2012/13 season by beating the Cheshire side at Griffin Park with Clayton Donaldson and Farid El Alagui getting two each.
They flew out of the traps, were 2-0 up inside the first 20 minutes and 3-0 up just before half time.
Crewe pulled one back but Brentford scored two more after half time – including one for Harlee – to take the points.
Harlee said Brentford played well and reacted positively after losing 3-1 to Yeovil Town last week but there was room for improvement.
“We can get better,” said the defender, speaking exclusively to Bees Player.
“It was a good performance, after a bad result on Tuesday.
“We can carry that 30 minutes on for a whole game.
“If we can do it we will go places.
“When the fans got behind us and showed they liked what we were doing that helped us.
“If they can do that for 90 minutes, who knows what sort of football we will play.
Harlee said Brentford’s start helped set the tone for the game.
“We played nice football,” he said.
“Crewe were a good team but we started quickly.
“We played nice football, got it through the lines and the water helped the pitch suit our style.
“Sometimes we start slow and the other team gets the initiative.
“It’s then hard to get it back.
“On Saturday we started well and got the two goals, then a third just before half time that was a killer for them.
“The fluidity and the movement of the whole, team is something we can take a lot of positives from.
“At times we had seven players attacking.”
Crewe scored just after half time but Harlee said Brentford always knew they had enough to win.
“The goal was against the run of play,” he said.
“It was a mix-up down the left and nobody was at fault, as a back four we could have done better.
“No matter what they did, we would have won.
“If they had scored four we would have scored ten.”
The defender said he came through 90 minutes well after missing the defeat against Yeovil.
“I feel fine,” he said.
“I felt I could have played Tuesday but it was best to be cautious.
“I felt sharp in the warm-up and I think I took it in to the game.”
Harlee also scored his first goal of the season against Crewe and said he had set a target for the season.
“I want to score goals this year, I only got one last year in 25 games,” he said.
“I have given myself a target of ten.
“Goals from all over the pitch will help us get to where we want to.
“It was a great delivery.
“Clayton could have headed it but he ducked out and I headed it, he did me a favour.”
