Youth Team midfielder Kyjuon Marsh-Brown thinks the positive atmosphere in the Youth Team dressing room is going a long way to helping with the team’s upturn in results.
After two disappointing campaigns in the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South The Bees lead the way this time round after nine matches.
Saturday’s win over Nottingham Forest was their third win in four matches and cements The Bees top spot in the league table.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Kyjuon said that the spirit is really good in the Youth Team dressing room this year.
The 16-year-old added that it was great to see the way in with players across three different age groups were getting on so well and that was definitely helping with results.
“The spirit in the dressing room is really good,” said Kyjuon.
“There is banter and good bonding.
“Everyone is great with each other really.
“It is helping with the results a lot.
“Last season they were struggling a bit but this year there is a new group and how we have bonded shows on the pitch.
“It is really good that guys are getting on across age groups because that helps keep things fluid.”
Brentford secured the win over Nottingham Forest with a goal in each half from Under-16 striker Kingsley Eshun.
His first followed good work by fellow Under-16 Julius Fenn-Evans while his second was a good improvised back-heel from close range.
Kyjuon felt that The Bees were well worth their three points but said that they could have pushed on more once they got themselves in front.
The midfielder praised the work of the two Under-16s up front adding that he thought the midfield could have done more in possession to help them.
“It is great to travel this far and get the three points,” said Kyjuon.
“We worked hard and pressed them really high in the first-half.
“In the first ten minutes I thought that we had control of the game and we played at our pace.
“When we got the first-goal we needed to keep that tempo which we didn’t do enough.
“It is really important to get the first goal because that gives us confidence to keep pushing.
“Today after we got the first goal our tempo dropped.
“It was really important that we didn’t concede then because at 1-1 the game would have been completely different.
“Kingsley is big, strong and fast while Julius can get the ball into feet and turn and do things on the ball.
“I think when we got the ball into the strikers we needed to play it out wide more and get other players into the box.
“Reece and Zain had loads of time on the ball but our movements off the ball could have helped them a lot more.”
Kyjuon has featured six times for the Youth Team so far this campaign in the first-year of his two-year scholarship.
As he adjusts to Youth Team football Kyjuon wants to nail down his starting spot for the Under-18s first and foremost.
However he hasn’t ruled out joining Bradley Clayton, Gradi Milenge and others in forcing their way into the Development Squad before too long.
“I want to play as many games as possible and work as hard as I can in training to try and reach the Under-21 squad,” said Kyjuon.
“Seeing boys like Gradi and Bradley going up to the Under-21s spurs me on.
“Even as a first-year I am going to work hard enough to try and reach the bench.”
