Youth Team midfielder Kyjuon Marsh-Brown believes his side picked up another deserved win following their 4-2 victory over Colchester United on Saturday.
The win was Brentford’s fourth in their last five matches and helped to open up an eight point gap at the top of the Under-18 Professional Development League Two South.
Speaking to Bees Player after the match Kyjuon said the dressing room was a great place to be given the side’s current run of form.
The 17-year-old added that although it was a deserved win he felt that Colchester were allowed a way back into the game which they should never have been.
“There is a really good mood in the dressing room,” said Kyjuon.
“We are buzzing to keep winning and hopefully we can just keep pushing and get the title.
“I think we are the best team in the league and today was another deserved win.
“Towards the end we got a bit sloppy and we didn’t really show our quality but at the start we did and we deserved the win.
“We played well to start with.
“We were passing and moving, getting shots on target and on the defensive side we were pressing well also.
“Coming towards the end of the game we got a bit too sloppy and too comfortable.
“We let them back in it and they got the goal.
“That could have spurred them on to keep going but we had the quality to slow it down again and keep our composure.”
The four goals against Colchester meant that Jon De Souza’s side have now scored 18 goals in their last six matches.
With the attacking talent at Brentford’s disposal and the way that they play football Kyjuon thinks that there isn’t a team in the league who can match The Bees, a message that Jon tried to impress on them at half-time against Colchester United.
“At half-time Jon’s message to us was to keep playing,” said Kyjuon.
“We needed to keep passing it, wear them down, keep moving the ball and try and get goals.
“When we do that there isn’t a side that can match us.
“With people like Bradley Clayton, Herson Rodrigues Alves, Makhosini Khanye and myself we are good attacking and we just need to keep improving.
“What we do and how we play is pretty unique.
“Our full-back come inside not just outside, I will come inside and end up as striker at some point.
“There are not many teams that play like that.
“We do a lot of work in training on midfielders moving with the strikers and then defenders moving with the midfielders and I think that is coming into play in the games now.”
Kyjuon was cautioned in the eighth minute of Saturday’s game, his first ever caution in football.
With Youth Team football all about learning experiences and development Kyjuon said he had to adapt his game to deal with being one yellow card away from a sending off.
“Sometimes I can lose my head and rush into things so I had to think more and be steady on my feet,” said Kyjuon.
“That was the first time I had ever been booked so it was a shock.
“After that I had to think about what I was doing so it was pretty different.”
Next up for the Youth Team is a trip to Crystal Palace on Saturday for a top of the table clash against the inform Eagles.
Saturday’s defeat to QPR ended a run of seven straight league wins for the South London side but Kyjuon believes the team go into the game on top form.
“It will be a hard game next week but we need to just keep our confidence high and just look forward to it, go there and beat them,” said Kyjuon.
“Confidence has played a big part in the dressing room since the start of the season.
“We have been high on confidence since the start of the season.
“With the confidence being there that has kept us spurred on to keep winning games and when you win games the confidence stays high.”
As well as establishing himself in the Under-18 side this season Kyjuon has also made four substitute appearances for the Development Squad this campaign.
Kyjuon said he never expected to play Under-21s football in his first year as a scholar but was inspired by seeing other members of the Youth Team snatching their chance to impress Lee Carsley and the Development Squad staff.
“My aim has been to push on to the Under-21s and get on the bench,” said Kyjuon.
“Now I have achieved that I need to keep working hard in the Youth Team to keep making the bench and maybe get a start soon.
“We thought as first-years that we wouldn’t really play in the Under-21s this season and it was a shock at first.
“Now that we are playing it is a real confidence boost for us.
“Seeing Bradley Clayton and Gradi Milenge playing in the Under-21s spurred me on to get there.
“Now that I have got there it should spur everyone else on to get there too.”
