Brentford Futsal Club was celebrating last night as the 'B' team booked their place in the League 2 Play-Offs after a 6-4 win over Chelsea. The equation was quite simple in this West London derby, Brentford needed to avoid defeat by 15 goals to avoid being pipped for the final League 2 play-off place by their opponents Chelsea.
Despite Chelsea taking the game to their West London rivals, the opening phase of the game remained scoreless. However, after nine minutes the task became virtually impossible for the SW6 team when Humzah Karim opened the scoring for The Bees. Chelsea responded three minutes later to level it up but Abas Ali then restored the Bees lead after 16 minutes.
Karim notched his second prior to half time to give Brentford a two goal cushion. After the interval, Chelsea responded with two goals in as many minutes that restored parity at 3-3 with 13 minutes to go. Karim then completed his hat-trick with a quarter of the game left and a minute later Ali, with his second, made it 5-3 to Brentford. Both teams scored once more with Karim ending up with four goals in the 6-4 Bees win. It was Abas Ali though, who claimed the Man of The Match award. Brentford 'B' can now look forward to the League 2 National Playoffs in June alongside the 'A' team who had already confirmed their place in the League 1 Play-Off.
The 'A' team were given an uncomfortable first 20 minutes by Chelsea at The Score Centre. It looked as though the Bees were going to enjoy an easy workout when Harman Sandhu gave Brentford the lead in the first minute. But Chelsea responded well to this setback and fired in three goals in four minutes for a 3-1 lead.
A time out was taken by Brentford and the effect was immediate with goals from Harman Sandhu and Azhan Iqbal, taking his total to 17 for the season, levelling it at 3-3 with 11 minutes gone. Chelsea though, retook the lead two minutes later but with five minutes to go before the interval Brad Scott made it 4-4. With less than a minute to the break it was Scott who scored again as the Bees went in 5-4 up at the half time.
The game then got very cagey until Brad Scott completed his hat-trick, on 27 minutes. Chelsea who only had five players were finally starting to tire. A goal from skipper Louis Dailey with five minutes to go put the game beyond the Blues. Scott then rounded off a Man of The Match performance with a brace to make it five in total as the Bees ended up 9-4 winners.
