Four weeks from today tens of thousands of people will be putting their best foot forward, at a variety of different speeds, in the name of sport and charity.
The 2015 Virgin London Marathon takes place on Sunday April 26 and approaching 40,000 people will run from Blackheath to The Mall and cover the 26.2 mile course. Brentford FC Head of Medical Neil Greig will be among those on the streets of London, fighting through the pain barrier.
Neil will be raising money for Havens Hospices, a charity that provides respite and care for adults and children at the end of their lives.
He is aiming to raise £4,000 and is approaching £3,000.
Neil told www.brentfordfc.co.uk how he was feeling with four weeks to go.
“The nerves are certainly beginning to jangle a little, particularly as I received my race number confirmation through the post this week,” he said. “There was a definite feeling of 'no turning back!'.
“Training has been going well, although not without a few ups and downs.
“I suffered with ankle pain for the first six weeks of training which limited me slightly, however that's improving and I've managed two runs of over 18 miles to date.
“I plan to run 20 miles on Sunday and then a final 20 miler the following week, before reducing my mileage and resting well in preparation for the big day.
“Despite my inexperience of this kind of event, I'm definitely looking forward to the challenge and want to ensure that I can raise as much money as possible for the Haven Hospice Charity.
“So far the Brentford players and fans have been very generous in their support so I'd like to thank them all and encourage anyone else who would like to support this fantastic cause to visit my just giving page.”
