Adam Forshaw said Brentford’s players were “proud” they had gone to Deepdale and beaten Preston North End 3-0.
The Bees went ahead midway through the first half when Adam scored from the spot.
He then set up Marcello Trotta for the second soon after.
David Button saved a second half penalty before Sam Saunders sealed the win with a late volley.
Adam said Preston tried to play long in to striker Kevin Davies and Brentford dealt with it.
He hailed a professional performance and a good win.
“We are really proud,” said Adam.
“It can be daunting to come to a place like this.
“They play to their strengths and play in an effective way.
“They play in and around Kevin Davies.
“We weathered the storm, particularly at the start of the second half.
“We have to thank Butts for the penalty save but we deserved the win and the clean sheet.
“We watched them and we knew they would put balls in the box and focus on set pieces.
“We gave a few silly free kicks away in the first half but we were ruthless in the second.
“We sucked up what they had really well and it was a professional performance.”
Adam said Brentford had planned for the way Preston would play.
The hosts started with a 3-5-2 system and that left space for wide forwards Clayton Donaldson and Kadeem Harris to exploit.
Adam said he, George Saville and Jonathan Douglas were tasked with getting the ball wide quickly.
“We worked on the way they would play in training,” said Adam.
“We knew they would be narrow and pack the midfield.
“We knew that when me, George and Dougie got it we had to get the ball wide quickly.
“That would use our strength and the pace we had.”
Adam said he was now Brentford’s penalty taker and took his run to three from three this season with the Deepdale conversion
Preston appealed the decision but Adam said he felt goalkeeper Declan Rudd had no need to come out and he did foul Clayton Donaldson.
Adam said he knew where he wanted to stick his spot kick.
“I don’t think the goalkeeper should have come when he did,” said Adam.
“Clayton showed the pace he has got and got their first.
“I think it was a penalty.
“I am the penalty taker now.
“I knew where I wanted to put it.
“I had been down the middle and bottom left.
“It is important not to put it in the same place every time.”
Adam set up the second soon after but Preston responded.
They were awarded a penalty but David Button saved Joe Garner’s spot kick.
Adam said that was a crucial moment and Sam Saunders scored a third goal to make the game safe.
“Our tails were up, we were confident and focussed, got the second goal and that was a sucker punch,” said Adam.
“The penalty save was crucial.
“Butts was brilliant today.
“If it had gone 2-1 it might have been a difficult afternoon.
“It kept our tails up.
“It is true that 2-0 is a dangerous score line.
“If they get one they are back in it, if we get one it is game over.
“The next goal counts and Sam was brilliant.”
Brentford play on Boxing Day, December 29 and New Year’s Day and Adam said Brentford’s strength in depth would come in to play.
“We have lads on the bench that can come on and do great jobs,” said Adam.
“The strength in depth in the squad is brilliant.
“I think it is as good as you will see in the league.
“In these times, at Christmas, when you have a lot of games, it will pay.”
Adam said there had been continuity in the squad despite the departure of Uwe Rösler.
Uwe Rösler left his position as Brentford Manager to take up a role at Wigan Athletic and Mark Warburton, formerly Sporting Director, took over.
“We have kept continuity,” said Adam.
“What Uwe Rösler did was brilliant, we got on a really good run.
“We believe in ourselves.
“Warbs has come in and doesn’t want to change much.
“We have tweaked a few things but everything has stayed the time.”
Adam added Brentford could not have done better than ten games unbeaten and were looking for promotion in 2014.
“We couldn’t have done any better in November and December,” he said.
“We will take each game as it comes now and strive for promotion.”
