Adam Forshaw said he had “no doubt” the decision to award Brentford a penalty and send off a Notts County defender on Saturday was the right one.
The Bees beat County 3-1 at Griffin Park on Saturday afternoon.
Adam got the first goal from the penalty spot after Haydn Hollis had been penalised, and then sent off, for bringing down Clayton Donaldson.
Adam said the red card gave The Bees a real advantage and the game was just about won at that point.
Alan Judge scored either side of half time to give The Bees breathing space and even a late goal from the visitors couldn’t affect the result.
Adam said his job was to score the penalty when it came to give The Bees something to build on.
“Clayton got to the ball before the defender,” said the midfield man, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the win.
“He was the last man and there is no doubt in my mind it was a red card, unfortunately for them.
“I had the job of putting it in.
“It made for quite an easy afternoon.
“In some ways a penalty and a man sent off is better than a goal.
“There is a real advantage.
“This is a fortress for us.
“I was focussed to put it away and I wanted it to give us the chance to score more goals, which we did.”
Notts County came and sat deep at Griffin Park but Adam said Brentford were used to it.
He said it was a credit to Brentford that teams wanted to play that way, even Sheffield United when The Bees went to Bramall Lane last week.
“Every team plays against us now like Notts County did,” said Adam.
“Even at Sheffield United they played with five in midfield at home.
“It is credit to us, we are good to watch and we have to get the final ball right to get in behind.
“We definitely did that today.”
Adam said Brentford were only worried about winning games.
He said the County win set them up for their next game, against Crawley Town at Griffin Park tomorrow, Tuesday April 8.
“The manager was pleased,” said Adam.
“We got three points and we can only affect that.
“He was maybe a bit disappointed with the way we finished but three points is three points and it sets us up nicely for Tuesday.”
