Farid El Alagui said Brentford put the last two games behind them as they beat AFC Wimbledon in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
The Bees lost 5-0 to Derby County in the Capital One Cup last week and drew 0-0 with Carlisle United in a Sky Bet League One fixture on Saturday.
But Wimbledon were beaten 5-3 in the Southern Section First Round tie at Griffin Park on Tuesday.
Farid, who scored twice and was named Man of the Match, said the confidence will grow from the win and they can take it in to Saturday’s league game against Bradford City.
“I am happy tonight,” said the striker, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the match on Tuesday.
“We had a great performance from the group.
“This is a great reaction following the two games last week.
“They were not the best.
“It is very good to get five goals tonight and we can move on to the league game on Saturday.
“We will be full of confidence.
“We were not great for the first 15 minutes but we tried to play.
“Wimbledon came to play and that made it easier for us to pass the ball.
“We need to show that tempo we showed tonight in league games at home.”
Brentford went a goal up in the first half and scored four quickly at the start of the second to lead 5-1.
Wimbledon scored two late goals to make the score line respectable.
Kevin O’Connor also spoke to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the game.
He said: “They made us work.
“We slacked off a little after we went 5-1 up in the final 15 minutes.
“We were very clinical tonight and I thought we deserved it.
“It was a bit open in the second half.
“We need to be a bit stronger in defence.
“We had done the job.”
Farid said: “It was an incredible second half.
“It was a typical cup game and that is what fans will ask for when they come to the stadium.
“They want an entertaining game.
“Credit to Wimbledon for coming to play, we watched a few videos and they are very good.
“They will do well in their league.
“When you try to play you deserve to win.”
Development Squad striker Luke Norris marked his first start in professional football with the second goal on the night.
He also set up the first goal for Farid and was involved in two more.
Farid said: “If I can help Luke I will do.
“I played with him in the Development Squad, he is excellent, still young and has so many attributes.
“He is quick and strong and Brentford are lucky to have a player like that.
“I am pleased for him tonight.
“He deserved his goal, he was fantastic and I hope to see him in the First Team more.”
Kevin added: “He did very well at Derby and got another chance tonight.
“He grew in to the game and I was delighted he took his goal.
“He had a lot of time and you can miss those.
“He is really happy in the Changing Room and I am happy for him.”
Farid scored the first goal when he slotted home a Luke Norris pass.
His second came when he got on the end of a Sam Saunders ball, rounded Wimbledon goalkeeper Ross Worner and squeezed a shot in at the near post.
“I am not a guy who will score from 40 yards,” said Farid.
“I tried to find a position in the box and Luke did well to find me.
“Football is all about decisions and reactions.
“He did well and I was in the position to finish it.”
Brentford’s next game is away to Bradford City on Saturday.
Kevin said: “Bradford have had a good start.
“They are strong at home and they have some good players.
“It is a test for us and we need to step up to the plate.
“We need to start winning away games and hopefully that can start on Saturday.”
Farid added: “Hopefully I will try and keep my confidence from tonight and put it in on Saturday.
“I will do my best to score and help the team.”
