Moses Odubajo said Brentford’s match against Sporting Clube Farense last night was a good fitness test that would help their preparations for the season. The Bees started their 2015/16 season with a 3-0 win in Portugal.
They used 21 players with the majority getting 45 minutes under their belt. Moses played the first half and set up the opening goal for Jermaine Udumaga just before the break.
Goals from Andre Gray and Jonathan Douglas sealed it after half time. The match kicked off at 6.30pm local time and was played in warm temperatures with high humidity.
Moses said it was a good game to play in. “This is like a fitness test,” he told Bees PlayerHD. The best fitness is match fitness and you get the best fitness through these types of games.
“It is good for the boys to play in high humidity and on stages like this. It is good to get a win as well. Coming off at half time all the lads were saying the same, it was hot and humid and we had dry throats. It was a bit cooler in the second half and that helped us. It is good to get the game under the belt, especially in this heat.”
Moses set up the first goal with an overlap of Jota before producing a cross that Udumaga converted. He said Brentford still needed to build fitness ahead of the new season but the pre-season friendless – the next of which is against Boreham Wood on Sunday, 19 July – helped.
“I thought we did well,” said the right back. “We had a lot of the ball. We were 1-0 up, it was good to score a goal and good for me to get an assist.
“My job is to get forward and help the team. I am here to make goals as well as my defensive work. For the goal I went pass Jota and had to find a pass, Jermaine dealt with it and it was a great finish.
“A win is good for confidence. A loss wouldn’t be the end of the world but a win helps. We have a long way to go fitness wise but these games help and we look forward to Boreham Wood next.”
