Ben Nugent said it was nice to come in to a club that would be pushing for promotion this season.
The defender joined Brentford on loan from Cardiff City yesterday, signing a deal to remain at Griffin Park until January 5.
Ben played against Brentford in a pre-season friendly on Tuesday night, which The Bees won 3-2 after coming from 2-0 down, and said he could see the quality in the squad.
Speaking to Bees Player after completing his move yesterday, Ben said it was an exciting move.
“It came around pretty quickly,” said the defender, talking about the loan switch.
“I was told the day after the game that it was happening.
“I was impressed with Brentford on Tuesday night; I thought they did very well.
“It is nice to come in to an environment full of hard working lads that will be pushing for a top place in League One.
“You could see playing against them that these lads work hard.
“They gave us, at Cardiff, a very good game.
“It is an exciting move for me.
“The ambition is to push for titles and promotion and it is nice to come in to a club that will be fighting for that.
“Brentford narrowly missed out last season and we want to give it a good crack this year.”
Ben is the latest in a line of young players to arrive from Premier League clubs on loan at Griffin Park.
Conor McAleny, who scored twice in the friendly win on Tuesday, is on loan from Everton while Adam Forshaw, Jake Bidwell and Harlee Dean have all joined after arriving on loan.
Ben said Brentford had a reputation for giving young loan players a chance and he wanted to show what he could do.
“I knew there were young players here,” he said.
“I know it is a young squad and it is good to see.
“It is a move that appealed to me because I know I can push for a place.
“There is an opportunity to fight for a place.
“I have to show what I can do and hopefully I will get a chance.
“I am fit and where I want to be, Brentford have played more games than Cardiff but I feel fit.”
Brentford start their Sky Bet League One campaign away to Port Vale tomorrow, Saturday August 3.
“This is an exciting time,” said Ben.
“The season starts on Saturday.
“I was getting ready for another couple of weeks.
“It’s nice to be involved in a competitive game on Saturday.
“It will work in my favour to be here now.
“Hopefully I can fight for a place early on.
“I can’t wait for it to start; I am really looking forward to it.”
