Nico Yennaris said his move to Brentford presented a new and “exciting” challenge.
The 20-year-old joined Brentford yesterday from Arsenal.
The England Under-19 international signed a deal until the summer of 2016 after moving for an undisclosed fee.
Nico, speaking to Bees Player after completing his move, said he had been in discussion with the Club, Sporting Director Frank McParland and Manager Mark Warburton for a few weeks.
He said leaving Arsenal after 14 years was the best thing for his future and he was happy to be at Brentford.
“A few weeks ago I was told of the interest,” said Nico.
“Talks have been ongoing since.
“I have been at Arsenal for 14 years.
“I came through the Academy.
“This is the best thing for my career.
“Frank and Mark talked about their plans and the challenge in front of me.
“I am happy to be part of it.
“It is an exciting challenge for me.”
Nico said he had a relative that worked and Brentford and knew it was a club on the up.
He said Brentford’s run of form – unbeaten in 16 Sky Bet League One matches, taking 44 points from the last 48 available and moving to the top of the table – had not gone unnoticed in the football world.
“I have a relative that works here,” said Nico.
“I know the Club is on the up and there has been a plan for a few years now.
“Some of the staff came from Arsenal.
“Brentford are doing well in the league.
“That gets noticed.
“Everyone knows what is happening at Brentford.”
Nico said he considered himself primarily a right back but could play elsewhere if needed and was happy to do so.
He said he wanted to be at a club fighting to win things and wanted to be part of Brentford’s promotion push.
He added he could not wait to get started.
“I am primarily a right back but if I need to do a job elsewhere I will do,” said Nico.
“I am happy to do that.
“Every player wants to do the best for their career.
“You want fight to win things.
“Brentford are trying to win the league and I want to be part of it.
“We all want to play at the highest level.
“Brentford are going places.
“This is a great opportunity for me.
“All players want to play week in week out.
“This league provides that.
“I can’t wait to get going.”
