Ellery Balcombe made his England Under-18s debut last night in a 1-0 friendly defeat against Sweden at Kungsängens IP near Stockholm. Neil Dewsnip's Young Lions had the better of the game but passed up a number of good opportunities to take the lead, twice striking the frame of the goal. The home side themselves had chances but couldn't find a way past Ellery until the 88th minute when Anel Ahmedhodzic took advantage of some slack marking to crash home a clever near post free-kick.
The two sides meet again on Sunday in Tibblevallen, kick-off 1pm local time.
