Brentford Chief Executive Mark Devlin has praised the 6,000 Bees fans who created a wall of noise at Stamford Bridge yesterday and called on them to make the same atmosphere at Griffin Park for the rest of the season.
The Bees visited Stamford Bridge for an FA Cup with Budweiser Fourth Round Replay yesterday, playing Chelsea away from home for the first time since 1946.
Brentford fans filled The Shed End at Griffin Park, which holds just under 6,000, and made it a day to remember, despite the eventual result.
Mark Devlin said: “I would like to thank Bees fans for their support yesterday on behalf of everyone at Brentford Football Club.
“The sight of 6,000 fans behind the goal is one that will live long in the memory.
“From my position on the half way line the end was a sea of red and white and the noise was incredible.
“The fans, like the players, did themselves proud and helped promote the name of Brentford FC to a wider audience.
“I know others in different parts of the ground – colleagues in other guest areas, the press box – had a similar opinion, that Brentford fans helped to create a special FA Cup atmosphere.
“Now our attention turns back to the league and there are 15 matches left.
“For almost six weeks the Club has risen to the challenge, both on and off the pitch, of facing Chelsea, including selling more tickets to a match at Griffin Park for more than 30 years and taking the biggest official away following to a match for almost 25 years.
“That sort of fervent support, and the numbers, is what is needed for the final ten weeks of the npower League One season.
“We have seven games left at Griffin Park and eight away matches – including relatively local fixtures against Stevenage, Crawley Town and Milton Keynes Dons, the first ever visit to Coventry City’s Ricoh Arena and the top-of-the-table clash against Sheffield United.
“We have offered free coach travel to Sheffield United, which we hope will boost the numbers, and supporters can still get one of our six-for-the-price-of-five ticket bundles for our remaining home games.
“The players will have to fit a quarter of a season in to ten weeks and will need the support of all Bees fans.
“In my time here I have seen how magnificent the supporters can be.
“I hope we see it again, and more, over the next ten weeks.”
