A youthful Brentford Development Squad were put to the sword in a 10-1 behind closed doors friendly defeat against AFC Bournemouth at Jersey Road yesterday, Tuesday August 12.
The Bees line-up, which included members of the Youth Team and trialists, more than matched their more experienced opponents in the first half.
Bournemouth’s side included experienced defender Stephan Zubar, highly rated midfielder Ben Whitfield and a number of players with Football League experience.
The Cherries led 2-0 after 20 minutes but Brentford pulled one back eight minutes later as Under-18 Herson Rodrigues Alves left two defenders for dead before smashing the ball into the top corner from 25 yards.
Brentford got to half-time with the score at 3-1 but that was as good as it got as Bournemouth ran riot in the second-half scoring eight without reply.
Ose Aibangee, Brentford FC Academy Director, said: "We had a very young team out against an experienced Bournemouth side.
"More than half of our players were scholars and trialists.
"It was a tough afternoon for them and they will learn from it.
"Our policy has always been to send players out on loan and get them playing at as high a level as possible rather than worrying about winning Development Squad matches.
"We currently have at Montell Moore, who was scoring on his professional debut for the First Team against Dagenham and Redbridge in the Capital One Cup, and Alfie Mawson, who did a very good job for Wycombe Wanderers against Millwall in their cup tie, who could have played in this friendly but did not.
"If those involved can put their disappointments behind them and learn from them, more of this group can reach that level."

The next game for the Development Squad is the opening Under-21 Professional Development League Two South game away at Crewe Alexandra next Wednesday, August 20.
