Dean Smith gave his post-match reaction to the last minute 3-2 defeat at Cardiff City in Wales.
“We didn’t start the game particularly well in the first ten, 15 minutes,” said Dean. “It took the little man Judgey to win a tackle and create a couple of chances and then we probably conceded against the run of play.
“Kenwyne Jones is always going to be a menace in the box and he’s won the first header and it’s dropped to Noone, who’s got a shot in. I think it’s hit Nico and he just couldn’t clear it and it’s scrambled in. The reaction in the second half was good, we got back on the ball and took it to them, but then Swifty probably had too many touches and got caught in possession and they broke from that and scored despite David Button making a really good save.”
Smith lamented the defending on the evening that left Brentford without a point.
“I always had hope with the way we played at times,” said Dean. “Apart from them hitting the top of the bar early in the game David didn’t have to make a save of note. But you can’t go and concede goals like we did and win games in the Championship. We showed a lot of character, a lot of resilience second half. I made a couple of changes second half after ten, 15 minutes and they had an impact and I thought we deservedly got back into the game but we had it snatched at the death.”
