Brentford goalkeeper David Button said he was pleased to keep his second consecutive clean sheet in the Sky Bet League One game against Carlisle United.
But the goalkeeper admitted he was disappointed it was not enough to give his team the points.
The Bees drew 0-0 with Carlisle at Griffin Park yesterday afternoon.
They had Tony Craig sent off in the second half but dominated the match and had a late goal disallowed for a non-existent push on Carlisle goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.
David, speaking to Bees Player after the draw, said he was pleased with his performance and felt before the match if he kept Carlisle out Brentford would win.
“I knew before the game that keeping a clean sheet would be vital,” he said.
“I felt confident we would get a goal.
“It didn’t turn out like that, but the back four did alright.
“Sometimes there is only so much you could do.
“I haven’t had loads to do but that can make it harder.
“It was pleasing to make the save and keep the clean sheet.
“I feel my kicking and distribution was good.
“When I needed to make the saves I am more than happy to do that.”
David said Brentford were disappointed not to win and admitted they had not played their best in the first half.
“We came in to the game looking to win,” he said.
“These are the games we would be expected to win if we are to have a good season.
“Overall we are a bit disappointed.
“We were under no illusions that it wouldn’t be an easy game.
“We would have to fight for the win.
“In the first half the tempo and the way we went forward weren’t as sharp as we normally are.
“It proved to be very difficult for us.
“The Manager was quite calm at half time but let us know in no uncertain terms that it wasn’t good enough.
“The lads knew that as well.
“The players knew that we had more in the locker.
“We felt the chances would come.”
David said the sending off of Tony Craig, when referee David Phillips deemed he had denied a goal scoring opportunity, came at a bad time.
But he said the first half performance was what cost The Bees.
“We were getting on top and things were starting to click when Tony was sent off,” he said.
“Even after he was sent off I felt we were the team with more impetus to get the goal.
“That’s credit to the lads.
“The first half performance let us down.
“It’s never easy with ten men and to be the better team shows good signs.
“We should have taken more advantage when we had 11.”
