Brentford Assistant Manager David Weir said The Bees produced a “really good performance” in their pre-season friendly win against Barnet.
Brentford beat the North London side 5-1 on Tuesday evening.
They fell behind early on but Stuart Dallas equalised and Alan Judge scored two before half time to put Brentford 3-1 up at the break.
Andre Gray made it four after half time and Montell Moore added a fifth.
David, speaking to Bees Player: Match Day Live after the win, said there were lots of positives.
“There were things we can be better at, but, on the whole, it was a really good performance,” he said.
“We got some goals, there were a lot of good individual displays and a lot of positives.
“It was a good night.
“We have good attacking options, we looked exciting going forward.
“It is never nice to concede a goal, we will look at that and how it happened but at the other end of the pitch we looked really bright.”
David hailed Brentford’s pace in attack and the way the players linked and rotated.
He said the attacking players offered a variety of options.
“Good footballers appreciate other good footballers,” said David.
“You could see the link play with all the players.
“The more we can add to the quality the better it will be for the Football Club.
“There was some good play and the players clearly like playing with each other.
“When you have pace it frightens people.
“We have worked on many things and we have great assets.
“We have brought in good players to add to what we already have.
“We have a variety of options and players that can go inside or outside.
“It is great to have players like that.”
David said Brentford wanted to play a certain way, while ensuring they win matches.
“We showed last year we want a team of footballers,” he said.
“The Club wants to be a certain way.
“We want to play entertaining and exciting football and score goals, we also want to win.
“That is the balance.
“We don’t want to compromise being successful but we want to be open, attractive and exciting.
“We are in pre-season, working to get fitter, quicker and better.
“We want to play football but there is a physical element.
“We have some players of smaller stature that can bring different assets to the team.
“Players need to stand up for themselves but we err on the side of work on the ball.”
Moore scored for the first time in a First Team shirt and David said he had shown his quality in training.
He added the promotion of Charlie Adams and Josh Clarke to the First Team last season showed The Bees would use players if they were good enough.
Finnish trialist Daniel O’Shaughnessy played against Barnet and David said he could not do any more.
“Montell is talented,” said David.
“He has been training with us for a little while and has been great.
“He has a chance to be part of the group.
“Charlie Adams and Josh Clarke have been involved as well.
“We want to bring players through, that is a big part of the Football Club.
“If the Academy can supply players that are good enough, they will play.
“Daniel O’Shaughnessy was excellent, he was composed on the ball.
“He has stature, you couldn't ask any more.
“Credit goes to himself and the players he was playing with.
“He was another positive tonight, the vast majority of things were.”
Brentford have three home friendlies – against OGC Nice, CA Osasuna and Crystal Palace – before they kick off the Sky Bet Championship season against Charlton Athletic on Saturday August 9.
“The starting XI on the first day of the season is genuinely up for grabs, we haven’t spoken about it,” said David.
“That was a tough game tonight, 5-1 was unfair on them.
“Saturday will be another test but the game on August 9 is what really counts.
“We have to keep improving but there are definitely spots up for grabs, we haven’t made our mind up.
“The lads that continue to do their best will fight for the spots
“Fitness wise the lads were good tonight and the football was good.
“There were lots of positives, but plenty to work on too.”
