Daniel O'Shaughnessy and his Finland teammates made a perfect start to the qualification process for the 2017 Under-21 European Championships, to be held in Poland, with a 2-0 win at home to Russia on Friday.
Finland are in Group 7 alongside Russia, Austria, Germany, Faroe Islands and Azerbaijan, with the nine group winners progressing automatically to the finals and the four best second-placed teams battling it our for two Play-Off spots.
The Fins got their qualifying campaign off to a winning start at the Arto Tolsa Areena in Kotka as first-half goals from Fredrik Lassas and Joel Mero secured three points against The Russians.
Daniel earned his tenth caps for his country, playing the full 90 minutes, and he will hope to add an 11th cap tomorrow when Finland host Faroe Islands in their second Euro 2017 Qualifier of the weekend.
