Stuart Dallas said he was looking forward to his next two and a half years at Griffin Park after signing a new Brentford contract.
The 22-year-old, currently on loan at Northampton Town, was at Griffin Park yesterday morning to sign a new deal that will keep him at Brentford until the end of the 2015/16 season.
Northern Ireland international Stuart joined Brentford in the summer of 2012 from IFA Premiership side Crusaders.
He played ten games in all competitions in his first season at Griffin Park and has played five so far this term, setting up two goals in the Capital One Cup win over Dagenham and Redbridge in August.
He linked up with Northampton last month and is with The Cobblers until the start of 2014.
He has played six games for the Sky Bet League Two club, scoring two goals.
Stuart said all at Brentford had helped him make the transition from part-time football in Northern Ireland to the English professional game.
He said he had enjoyed it so far and was now looking forward.
“I was very pleased to be offered a new contract,” said Stuart.
“It has been going on for a while and I am pleased it is finally sorted.
“I am looking forward to the next two and a half years.
“I have really enjoyed my time at Brentford so far.
“Last season was a bit of a rollercoaster.
“I am out on loan this season and I think that will really help me.
“I am looking forward to the future.
“It was a big step up from the Irish league but with the help of everybody at the Club I was able to adapt pretty well.
“I was only training once or twice a week.
“To come here, train every day and play games is a big difference.
“I have really enjoyed it.
“I am thankful it is done and I can concentrate on the next couple of months at Northampton and I will be ready if Brentford decide to recall me.”
Northampton are currently bottom of the Football League but Stuart said they have been playing better than their results would suggest.
Stuart extended his stay at the League Two club last week and said he felt it was a move that would benefit all parties.
“It has been different,” he said.
“It is out of my comfort zone and that has been good.
“It is an experience for me and I hope to learn from it.
“The results we have been getting haven’t justified our performances.
“We have done really well in games but haven’t got results.
“When you are down the bottom things seem to go against you.
“We have a few big games coming up and hopefully we can get some points.
“It was partly my decision to stay but also the clubs’.
“It will benefit me to get a run of games.”
Stuart said the loan move gave him the opportunity to play regularly.
He said Brentford Manager Uwe Rösler felt that would be good for the wide man.
“You can train as much as you want but you need to play games,” said Stuart.
“That is what I want to do.
“The gaffer has realised that and he has let me go out.
“It won’t just benefit me but also Brentford as well.
“I always felt fit but you need to play games.
“At my age I needed to play.”
