Under the Football Association's regulations on working with intermediaries, clubs are required to make public the total paid to intermediaries during the period October 1 2014 to September 30 2015. Brentford Football Club paid £682,356.50 to intermediaries during the period in question.
Phil Giles, Brentford Football Club Co-Director of Football, said: “The Club has had a firm policy regarding the amount paid to intermediaries, mostly in the form of fees paid to agents, going back over a number of years. Since I have been involved with the negotiation of transfers and contracts this policy has been maintained and I have ensured we never pay above a set percentage on any deal
“We seek best value on every deal and have stated previously that we cannot outspend our rivals in the Championship. It is also true, however, that to secure high quality players, especially from foreign markets, agents and intermediaries will be involved.
“We try to only work with intermediaries who conduct their business in a professional manner and with agents that look after their players, enabling them to focus on their football and not off-the-field matters. It is important that all of our supporters know that any spending in this area is closely monitored and controlled to the best of our ability.”
