Brentford Football Club hosted a Christmas party for almost 100 of the town’s oldest residents last week.
On Thursday, The Hive played host to 97 pensioners who sat down to a three-course Christmas lunch and tea and coffee.
They were entertained by singers from Brentford School for Girls, Tom Keane, from BBC TV’s Flog It and Dickinson’s Real Deal, and young musician Mackie, who sang a variety of well-known Christmas songs and favourites while playing the keyboard.
The OAPs, many well in to their 90s and one as old as 95, were invited by the Club and charity Age Concern to celebrate Christmas at Griffin Park.
They were treated to a Brentford FC goody bag gift, presented by Father Christmas, which included a Brentford scarf and mug, a Christmas pudding, and a box of chocolates.
There was also additional entertainment when the Griffin Park fire alarm went off and a Fire Engine and four fire-fighters turned up, much to the delight of the pensioners.
Mike Sullivan, Brentford FC Commercial Manager, organised the event and paid tribute to the company sponsors and Brentford fans that helped pay for it.
They included Quilliams, Chiswick Auctions, Citroen London West, Hounslow Chamber of Commerce, Reliable Networks, Arizion, Sunil Aggarwal, members of Club Brentford, Bob Hill, Heathrow Aviation Club, Mike Harvey, Bees United, BIAS, Paul Davy, Mike Harvey, Brentford Morrisons and Tesco Osterley.
Mike said: “Without the help of those who donated, whether it be time, goods or money, this could not have happened.
“Hopefully, Brentford Football Club has played its part in making this Christmas a little more special for the 97 Pensioners.
“The fire alarm was a particular delight for our guests, despite the need to evacuate.
“It was very noticeable that the blood pressure from the female guests went up when they saw four fire-fighters in uniform walking around Griffin Park checking that there was no fire.”
